I'm a clinical psychologist working with anxiety, depression, stress, emotional / behavioural dysregulation, shame and trauma. As a queer man, I have a passion for working with the LGBTIQA+ community. I work to create a shared understanding of their current patterns of behaviour and experiences from an attachment, trauma-informed, and developmental lens to heal the parts of themselves that get in the way of them living a meaningful life. I work with people to build up the healthy parts of themselves, learn to ask for their needs to be met and to cope with the difficulties that inevitably arise as part of life and relationships.

Managing stress and changing behaviour is a complex matter. It can be even tougher when you try to do it alone. My clients are looking for the tools to manage their situation effectively and bring about positive behaviour change and improved performance. The people I work with want the power that comes from combining the best elements of coaching, positive psychology with the best therapeutic practices, including both traditional and state of the art methods. They want both coaching support and clinical expertise to help them cope, build their resilience and ultimately thrive across a range of complex situations and experiences.

I exclusively work with athletes (young amateurs, semi-pro, pro or elite), sport parents, performers & sport team coaches. I help you with the psychological shifts needed to transition through the different stages of your sporting career. EG: From Semi-pro to Pro or from Pro to Elite. Before you even get to that level, you need to know you belong there. All the issues you are experiencing in your sport stem from that core issue. That is the essence of my work.

Have you been finding it hard to get out of bed lately? Maybe your mind won’t stop racing, or you feel on edge all the time? Maybe you’re tired of putting on a brave face while quietly falling apart inside. Whatever it is, you don’t have to go through it alone. Together, we’ll make sense of what’s happening, work through the tough stuff, and build practical tools to help you feel calmer, stronger, and more in control. My approach is warm, genuine, and down-to-earth. I want you to feel comfortable being yourself, and know that therapy is a space where you’ll be met with understanding—not judgment.

Choosing a therapist is hard, yeah? We're all a bit mad. And different. And individual. And that's OK. A lot of us came to the field trying to make sense of our own selves. With some insight and understanding, it gets a lot easier. Then we can change. Then we can heal. Then we can accept. I tend to work with folk with complex psycho-social issues under the NDIS, but we're all human. Most people have got something really tricky in the present that needs an intervention of sorts, and can hopefully be avoided by understanding how they got there. All of us hurt.

If you are an adult, wanting meaningful help to alleviate suffering, be it from longstanding depression, anxiety, trauma, addiction, relationship problems or work issues, please feel free to reach out. Perhaps you have tried therapy in the past, and found that, while helpful at the time, it didn't facilitate long term change or get to the heart of the matter.

Male Counsellors

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with therapists of a specific gender. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
