I began my psychological practice supporting children and adolescents, developing my attachment-based and trauma-informed approach.
‘Cor’ Latin for heart: The heart, symbolising love, relationship, and attachment, reflects Cor Studio’s commitment to promoting relational safety. Cor Studio’s vision is to cultivate authentic connections and secure attachments, empowering individuals to feel safe within themselves and their communities. ‘Studio’ A room where an artist works: Just as art is created from unique tools and mediums that reflect peaks, dips, light, and darkness, each person is shaped by their singular upbringing, challenges, needs, strengths, values, and goals. Cor Studio is dedicated to holistic wellbeing support that integrates the whole.

Taking an attachment-based approach, I'll get to know you, your unique patterns and experiences.
I work with adults and adolescents who want to stop repeating old patterns in their life and relationships. You're the one who is always there for others, but find it difficult to accept help in return. Your friends and loved ones reassure you, but you're plagued with a feeling that you don't really have much to offer. Self-doubt holds you back, and a constant battle with your inner critic leaves you exhausted. You've already worked really hard to try and make changes in your life, but frustratingly, your problems return and you keep struggling with feelings of emptiness and unfulfillment.

It takes courage and honesty to decide that you are not satisfied with your life. You might know that you need change, but you are not quite sure what, or, how to go about it. Alternatively, you may have a very clear idea of what is getting in the way of you thriving. Perhaps you have found the last couple of years a challenge, or you are generally feeling a bit lost or confused having difficulty processing the impact of the pandemic on you, or your young people/person, or any other barrier/s. Regardless, we can work together to rediscover hope, purpose and joy in your life.

I am a counsellor and body-based psychotherapist with special interests in all aspects women’s health, trauma and couples therapy. I work collaboratively with clients to find a place of healing and recovery and I'm not the kind of therapist that is ok with “feeling better” if better is still a long way off being truly well. That’s why I feel such an affinity with the word ‘wellbeing’. as it is much more than the absence of disease or illness. Wellbeing is a multidimensional mix of getting your physical, mental and social health in balance, and I have a team of Counsellors working at the practice to support you in your healing.

Finding the right therapist can feel overwhelming, but at the heart of therapy is connection—and that’s what I try my best to prioritize! I believe therapy shouldn’t feel clinical or detached; it should feel like a conversation with someone who truly sees you. I work specifically with young adults aged 18 - 35, and I have a special interest in working with trauma and attachment difficulties, anxiety disorders, young adults who are experiencing family and relationship difficulties, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and people who are experiencing identity struggles or those just feeling "stuck".

Attachment-based Counsellors

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioural Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
