It's the start of the year but you're probably exhausted. You've been everyone's rock - the reliable friend, the family peace-keeper & the one who puts others first. But beneath that strength lies overwhelm, feeling invisible and exhaustion. You feel drained from carrying everyone's emotional burdens and find yourself saying "yes" when you desperately want to say "no." You experience anxiety, insomnia or physical symptoms from constantly prioritising others. Whether you're burnt out, questioning your relationship, navigating life transitions, struggling with ADHD overwhelm or just tired, it's time to put you first

Sometimes we know everything we could do to change things but we just can't make our way through the fog. If you've been lying awake at night, thought it through more times than you care to admit and tried talking therapy, yet still find yourself stuck, there are ways beyond words that can help. I work with music, art, imagery and the body alongside EMDR and Internal Family Systems, to access different pathways towards clarity and ease. Many of the people I see are therapists and clinicians who spend their days holding this for others. Short-term, intensive therapy options are available depending on your needs.

For reasons that I cannot explain, the more complex the clients needs, the more likely they are to find themselves on my doorstep. Commonly, I have clients tell me in their first session that 'they have many issues and no one else has ever been able to help them before' - this is generally an indication that we will build a lasting relationship. I am patient, very open-minded and laid back in my approach whilst still maintaining professionalism. If you fear therapy because of the overly clinical approach then you will find my way of forming a therapeutic alliance refreshing and endearing.

Eating disorders can feel hopeless, but they aren’t. Whether this is your first time seeking help or your umpteenth time, I believe everyone can recover. Just as there are many reasons why an eating disorder manifests in your life, the way you recover will be just as unique. If there were a one-size-fits-all solution, that would perhaps be as deceptive as the problem itself. Whether it’s perfectionism, judgment, loneliness, self-improvement, health, fear, family issues…Together, we will discover what invites these problems into your life and begin to find what recovery means for you.

Can you relate to either of these statements? “I’m so over hurtful relationships. I’m starting to think I’ll be single forever” "We can’t keep fighting like this. If something doesn’t change we’re headed for a breakup” If you can relate to the pain of struggling in a relationship, you’re not alone. If you’re an individual in relationship pain, I can help you overcome your past relationship hurts, understand your blocks to intimacy, and help you create a successful long-term relationship. If you’re a couple, I can help you resolve long-standing issues and rebuild the loving, intimate and harmonious relationship you once had.

My approach to therapy is grounded in curiosity, compassion, and understanding. Rather than asking, “What’s wrong with me?”, I believe it is often more helpful to explore, “What happened, and how did I learn to cope with that?” Many of the challenges we experience make sense when viewed in the context of our life experiences. Together, we can gently explore the patterns that may be keeping you stuck, better understand what is contributing to your distress, and identify what is, and is not, serving you anymore so you can move towards a life that feels more meaningful, authentic, and aligned with your values.

Somatic Therapists
How does somatic therapy work?
Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?
Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?
Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
