Having a restful night's sleep is blissful.
We have all been in situations that we wish were different. We want someone who listens respectfully, to support and encourage us to get through this situation stronger and to be proud of who we are. It can be reassuring to work with a professional therapist to help clarify our thoughts, who will provide tools to manage concerns and assist in putting a life plan in to action.

Whether you are struggling with chronic illness, reoccurring patterns, ADHD or Autism diagnosis, sleep issues, depression or anxiety.
It can be hard to consider coming to therapy… You might be experiencing chronic pain or recurring physical symptoms. Perhaps you are exhausted and you feel like you have already tried everything. Maybe you are worried or overwhelmed by the relationships in your life. You could be trying to understand how experiences in your life are impacting your sense of self, but need more support in this process... These are all good reasons to reach out, and there are many more.

Ryan Morgan is a registered psychologist with post graduate training in non-medication based approaches for addressing conditions for such as sleep disorders, ADHD, stress and burnout, depression, anxiety and peak performance for students, athletes and professionals.
My focus is to use a broader assessment framework that seeks to look at the brain more directly with the view to better understanding the personal drivers of the clients struggles. This along with other clinical assessments helps me to personalise the treatment plan to the client and avoid a one size fits all treatment approach.

For sleep or insomnia issues, I am well-versed in the gold standard Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) treatment, but I can also offer different approaches if you've tried CBT-I and it hasn't worked for you.
Hi there! My name is Phil and I'm a registered psychologist and clinical psychology registrar in Melbourne, based in Glen Iris in Victoria but also offering telehealth services to anyone in Australia. First of all, thank you for clicking into my profile and wanting to learn more about the services I offer, and of course, about me. As a client taking the courageous but perhaps monumental step to seek help, I can appreciate how difficult it might be to find the 'right' therapist for you in amongst the sea of choices; trawling through information that can sometimes seem, frankly, like psychological mumbo jumbo.

How effective is treatment for insomnia?

The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.

Are there specific medications for sleep problems?

There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.

Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?

There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.

What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?

Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
