Jes Anderberg
Psychotherapist
I am an integrative therapist who loves working with people who are willing to be curious about themselves and others. I specialise in a process of
somatic
self-insight called Focusing, in which attention is placed not only on thoughts, emotions, and behaviours, but also on the body’s immediate, moment-to-moment reactions and felt sense of an issue. This process is well suited to people who are feeling stuck, suffer from anxiety and/or depression, or are having a transitional time in life and need to find an authentic way forward. Our sessions together are 75 minutes in length, and are designed to help you achieve meaningful change.

Safe and compassionate therapy for women and girls 16 and over. As women, we experience unique challenges related to gender, like - discrimination, sexual assault, abuse, domestic violence and hormonal life transitions. And these life experiences can have a significant impact on your mental health and wellbeing. I believe, given the right environment and opportunities, we can all live a rich and meaningful life. It takes strength and courage to reach out for help, so I promise to meet you where you are - gently and mindfully.

Therapy can have profound benefits and can lead to lasting change, but it only works when you are ready, and feel trusting of your therapist. For my part, I seek to provide a warm, non-judgemental space for you to explore and experience whatever is most needed at the time—a supportive and curious approach that allows for rich and meaningful relational and inner-world development. If you have been feeling stuck in a cycle, overwhelmed, are experiencing grief or loss, want to make a change or cultivate your strengths, I will work collaboratively with you to enable your growth.

If you are feeling overwhelmed, tired, hopeless or lacking joy; like your emotions are uncontrollable or that they do not match with reality; that your worry is getting out of hand or that there is no longer any point, then it might be a good time to seek some support. We are social creatures, and despite what our modern society might have us believe, we all need human connection to function. Seeking support is a huge sign of strength – the strength to actually reach out and let someone in, in order to start the healing process. If you can relate to this or if you have set yourself a personal development goal please reach out.

I'm truly interested in what my clients have to say. I am a warm, compassionate, non-judgmental, person-centered psychologist. I have practiced since 2011 - working with individuals, couples, families and groups. Using a EMDR, a trauma-informed approach, I walk beside clients on their healing journey. I use many creative Arts therapy, movement and bodywork techniques to process and expel trauma stored in the body. This keeps therapy gentle and non-threatening, whilst deepening the process at the same time. I empower and equip my clients to navigate the uncertainties of life and achieve the goals they set for themselves.

As a psychotherapist I create a field, I prepare the ground and the conditions, I set processes in motion, I resonate and synchronise with the rhythm of the person. I help the person to centre inside, to anchor in the body, in the present and in reality. What I am most interested in is the relationship people have with themselves. Most problems that occur in interpersonal relationships have to do with conflict within us. My work is about lowering fears, taking small and big courageous steps, regaining the capacity to love, rebuilding trust in ourselves so that we can find and follow our path.

Somatic Counsellors
How does somatic therapy work?
Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.
Is EMDR a somatic therapy?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.
Is somatic therapy evidence-based?
Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.
What is somatic trauma therapy?
Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
