I'm Sanduni, a psychologist and South Asian Woman of Colour with over 10 years of experience in the mental health sector. I started Insession Counselling to provide therapy to people from all cultural backgrounds, gender identities and sexual orientations. Navigating my own experiences of marginalisation and intersectionality as a queer Sri-Lankan woman has allowed me to truly understand how culture, gender and sexuality shape so much of who we are and how we experience relationships. I combine this lived experience with evidence-based psychological interventions so that the therapy you receive is tailored specifically to you.

I specialize in treating adult clients who have had motor vehicle injury or workplace injury and who have PTSD and/or chronic pain as a result. I charge no additional out of pocket costs for TAC or Worksafe clients. I have extensive experience with treating TAC and Worksafe clients for PTSD, anxiety relating to the accident, persistent pain following the accident, and often with related stress, sleep, relationship and/or mood problems. I also see Medicare clients with similar presenting concerns.

Being a passionate advocate for non-directive Child-Centred Play Therapy, an approach which is backed by neuroscience and is strictly evidence based, I specialise in working therapeutically with families of children of 2-10 years old to support their child towards their full potential. I recognise the importance of facilitating parents with their involvement in the child's therapy by helping them to become therapeutic agents for their children. Akriti Shrestha (Aki) is a trilingual registered General Psychologist with a Masters in Psychology (Counselling Psychology). She has had experience working in both private and public communities with families and individuals, regarding complex situations pertaining to trauma, abuse, neglect, and family violence. She has worked with individuals of all age groups- from teenagers to older adults. She has also had experience completing Intelligence tests for children and has successfully conducted parenting programs aimed at helping parents of teenagers. ​

Ruku is passionate about working with clients from a diverse range of cultural, social and economic backgrounds. Her practice is empathetic, culturally responsive and trauma informed. She has extensive experience in community and welfare settings and is able to provide psychological assessment and treatment for a wide range of issues. Ruku uses Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Solution-focused therapy and Mindfulness-based interventions to assist individuals to achieve their goals and increase overall wellbeing. Ruku can provide therapy in English and Hindi.
