With trauma or ongoing stress, survival energy becomes stuck in our nervous system. We might make adjustments, like seeking or avoiding certain types of situations, or clenching certain muscles to dodge tricky feelings or sensations. We believe this keeps us safe from what we fear, but we can also feel trapped in patterns that take a huge toll on our lives, health and relationships. My clients and I work together with sensitivity and compassion & discover ways to gently restore a sense of inner security, peace and passion for life.

I believe what most of us want is to feel safe, heard, and truly understood. My role is to create that kind of space, one where you don’t have to perform, explain everything perfectly, or “have it all together” before you walk in the door. I work with adults and young adults navigating anxiety, low mood, burnout, complicated family or relationship dynamics, life transitions, and questions of identity or self-worth. Whether you’re feeling lost, stuck, or simply unsure what’s next, we’ll slow things down, make sense of what’s been weighing on you, and explore small, realistic steps toward the life you want to be living.

Do you find yourself overthinking, feeling guilty when you try to set boundaries, or caught in repeating patterns that leave you feeling drained and burnt out? I work with young women who are highly self-aware, yet still find it hard to break out of these cycles. It can feel confusing and frustrating, like insight alone isn’t enough to create change. I offer a warm, and safe space, where we can gently explore what’s beneath this and help you feel more grounded, clear, and able to show up in your life with more confidence and internal trust.

I integrate a trauma-informed practice and draw on therapeutic modalities, including ACT, EMDR and Psychodynamic.
I believe in creating a safe, non-judgemental space where healing and growth can occur by working from a place of collaboration, curiosity, and compassion. Together, we work to build insight and explore patterns that may be contributing to difficulties in your life by looking beyond symptoms to understand how past experiences shape current thoughts, feelings, and relationships.

I use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to ground present emotional realities in greater self-awareness and to build a motivating picture of the values towards which clients are drawn; and psychoanalytically-informed psychodynamic principles to go to the 'root causes' of difficulties in the past.
I seek to support clients who are looking to make positive change in their lives. They may want to move away from difficult emotional states like depression, anxiety, anger and loneliness or address repetitive and destructive behaviours such as substance abuse or sexual compulsion that are holding them back. They may also be overwhelmed by big transitions like bereavement, divorce or relocation and feel stuck, or unvalued, in their professional journey. I see clients of all ages and from many walks of life, with a particular focus on men's mental health, working professionals, and members of the LGBTQ community.

I have completed the core training in Intensive Short Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP), a psychodynamic psychotherapy that focuses on causative factors, not just symptom relief.
I work in a relational and psychodynamically informed way with anxiety, depression, anger issues, relationship issues, chronic/persistent health conditions, grief and loss, significant life decisions, psychedelic or spiritual integration and with patients who have a history of trauma. My post graduate research was in men's health and ecopsycholology.

Psychodynamic Therapists
Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?
Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?
Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?
Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?
Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
