Couples
work is modelled on PACT, created by Dr Stan Tatkin, which is based on research in Attachment Theory, Neuroscience and the biology of human arousal.
Life can be hard, uncertain and confusing, and yet there is an expectation that we inherently know how to live and relate well. This is a fallacy. The realms of the personal are complex, made even more complex when two or more lives come together in
relationship
. Guidance, mentorship, support and education are necessary elements to navigating the vicissitudes of life and
relationship
. I therefore guide my clients (individuals,
couples
and other relationships) through a unique exploratory process of understanding, discovery and growth.

I aim to help you re-connect to your
partner
deeply and provide tools to co-create the amazing
relationship
you dream of having.
We are not taught how to relate and often we just make it up as we go, doing the best we can with what we have or have learned. When relationships break down, getting support is better than struggling alone. I work with
couples
and individuals in
relationship
crisis, who are experiencing difficulties from ongoing conflict or anger issues, communication breakdown, loss of trust, infidelity, major life transitions, grief and anxiety. I work with
couples
considering ending their relationships or who have lost the spark of passion and intimacy. I specialise in repeating patterns of behaviour stemming from past traumas or experiences.

I use trauma-focused and somatic modalities to support traumatised individuals, families and
couples
.
I am passionate about supporting and helping individuals, families who feel trapped in their trauma symptoms. I am Somatic Experiencing, Accredited EMDR and Havening Practitioner. I support people with Complex PTSD issues. There is a common belief that the trauma is the result of individual's thinking pattern, which is misleading. Any traumatic experiences registered somatically, therefore the trauma work will be somatically oriented, which aims to clear the symptoms from the whole system.

Hi, my name's Michele and I offer counselling and psychotherapy to adults who are experiencing emotional distress that prevents them from functioning well in their work and personal lives. You may want to see a psychologist if you are experiencing excessive worry, panicky feelings, low mood, low energy or loss of interest in things. You might be going through a life transition, experiencing grief after a loss or having
relationship
difficulties. You may have grown up having painful and difficult experiences early in life which prevent you from functioning freely and creatively, or from forming positive relationships with others.

A
relationship
that thrives and gives you fulfilment will bring the kind of lasting happiness that enables you and your
partner
to grow and create deeper bonds. When an important
relationship
becomes strained or distressed, the pain you feel can challenge you to the core. I work with you in order to reveal the dynamics of your
relationship
- the patterns that you have built to protect the wounds that you have suffered. Together we will explore and uncover the hidden beliefs and unconscious drivers that are the triggers of your difficulties in relating to yourself or
partner
. We long to become present to ourselves, and connected.

Therapy is about much more than just talking; it is about having new experiences, which allow you to develop a different
relationship
with yourself, others & the world.
People come to see me for a lot of different reasons. For instance, you might be experiencing depression or anxiety, having
relationship
difficulties (whether you're single or partnered), going through a major life transition or loss, or wondering about the overall direction of your life. You may have a sense that there's something more to life -- that you could be living a richer life, and thriving more than you are right now. I'm here to support you and examine what's working and not, whether you're seeking a major transformation, or simply a deeper understanding of your life patterns.

Currently open for new referrals. I work from an understanding that many of life's concerns stem from our past experiences in relationships and the structural difficulties that are present in our society. This organizes the way I understand peoples experience and distress and how I seek to understand how we are in
relationship
, and what fixed patterns get in the way of living a more meaningful and enriching life. I work with warmth and curiosity to help develop a deeper understanding of your area of concern and better make sense of why particular patterns might be causing distress.

My aim is to establish a warm and trusting
relationship
where you can feel supported, gain new insight, process emotions, alleviate symptoms, and develop your self confidence and sense of purpose. I take an integrative approach tailored to your needs; effective therapeutic interventions are identified collaboratively, and may include talking therapy, experiential approaches, art therapy, walk & talk therapy, etc. I believe real therapeutic change takes time and can offer longer term psychotherapy options to suit your needs and budget.

Couples Counselling
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
