I am informed by attachment-based modalities, sensorimotor and somatic approaches and polyvagal theory.
A relational and somatic focus is the heart of my work as a therapist. I offer trauma-informed, therapeutic counselling grounded in an integrated and holistic approach. I have a deep interest in how stress and trauma impact the nervous system, and how we hold these impacts in our physiology. I am very experienced in working with complex and developmental trauma, and trauma resulting from sexual assault & family violence. I work with issues such as anxiety, depression, relationship problems, grief & loss, family dynamics, interpersonal issues, life transitions, or helping people to explore existential and spiritual concerns.

You don't have to keep carrying it alone.
Maybe anxiety has been with you so long it feels normal — the racing thoughts, the tight chest, the sense that something's always about to go wrong. Maybe trauma has left you disconnected from yourself or the people you love. Or life has shifted in ways you didn't expect, and you're not sure who you are anymore.
Whether you're an individual, a couple, or a teen navigating something hard — this is a space where you can breathe, be seen, and start to heal.

While I have 20 years’ experience working therapeutically with adults, children, adolescents & their families who have experienced trauma, this is more than just a job for me. I am a deeply philosophical & spiritual person, & am not afraid to contemplate the big questions or to go to dark places with you, so you don’t feel alone. I am deeply empathic, warm & kind and have this way of just being with you - no matter how, or where you are. I am deeply respectful, practical & expressive (I will laugh a lot!) & hold a strong vision for my clients, so we can work towards your goals & dreams, even if it feels dangerous to hope for more.

I have been privileged to meet people from all walks of life who have added so much value to both my personal and professional development. I have worked within the Community Services and Mental Health Services Sector now for approximately 21 years. Over this time, I have met and supported people living in nursing homes who were at their end stage of life, people with differing abilities, and individuals that are confined within the Victorian prison system. I have also facilitated men’s behaviour change programs for both mandated and non-mandated members, supporting them to understand the differences between abusive and non-abusive

I believe lived experience is an essential complement to professional training. It deepens empathy, reduces judgement, and allows clients to feel genuinely understood rather than analysed. My work focuses on helping clients develop insight and effective strategies for change during periods of stress, transition, or relational difficulty.
In relationship counselling, I work with individuals and couples navigating conflict, separation, or the process of rebuilding trust. Where separation is inevitable, I support respectful communication, negotiation, in order to maintain long-term emotional stability.

I'm a fully certified Somatic Experiencing Practitioner & social work counsellor (NB trans), with over 20 years' experience working in community services. My work is grounded in social justice and liberatory practices that support self-agency, joy, pleasure & empowerment. I have a deep interest in relational & social trauma and use a somatic approach that acknowledges the external forces of power and harm. Our bodies hold protective patterns (or felt senses) in response to early attachment wounds, traumatic experiences, relational disruptions and structural pressures - together we work to safely integrate and release these patterns.

Attachment-based Therapists
Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?
Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.
What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?
Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.
How long does attachment-based therapy last?
Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioural Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.
Does attachment-based therapy work?
Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
