I will often integrate aspects of Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT), which explores recurring relational patterns, and have a love of EMDR, which helps people to connect with challenging experiences to reshape their sense of self and worldview.
At Saltmarsh Psychology, I work collaboratively with clients to better understand the patterns, experiences, and emotions that shape their lives and relationships. Many of the difficulties people face, such as anxiety, depression, or the impact of trauma, can be connected to long-standing ways of thinking, feeling, and relating that developed earlier in life.
Through therapy, my aim is to provide a safe and reflective space where clients can process difficult experiences, develop greater self-understanding, and build more balanced and fulfilling relationships with themselves and others.

I work with people who are often carrying long standing emotional wounds — perhaps shaped by difficult early experiences, painful relationship patterns, or trauma that still lingers in the present. Many of my clients come to therapy feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected from their true selves and relationships. They may be repeating patterns they don’t fully understand but long to change.

I have training in psychodynamic and body-oriented approaches (somatics) and EMDR, as well as cognitive-behavioural (CBT) approaches like ACT.
My somatic specialisation considers mind and body to be one. We experience ourselves and the world around us through our thoughts and emotions, AND bodies and sensations. Increasingly, contemporary neurobiology is revealing that a purely mental understanding of an issue is insufficient - this is where the body comes in. EMDR can be integrated seamlessly.

Drawing on approaches including Deep Brain Reorienting (Level 3), EMDR, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Interpersonal Therapy and Infra-Low Frequency Neurofeedback, I tailor therapy to the person rather than expecting the person to fit the therapy.
Have you spent years trying to understand yourself, yet still find yourself caught in the same emotional patterns or relationship difficulties? Perhaps you've gained valuable insight through previous therapy, yet something still feels stuck.
When insight alone hasn't been been enough, it is often because the effects of trauma are reflected not only in how we think, but also in the protective ways our mind and nervous system have learned to respond.

EMDR Therapists
Who is EMDR for?
EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.
Why do people need EMDR?
People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.
What problems does EMDR treat?
First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.
What happens in EMDR therapy?
First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimising its ability to trigger anxiety.
