My approach blends together a range of modalities including EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), inner child healing, parts work, re-parenting, attachment-based therapy, somatic psychotherapy, imagery rescripting, ACT, and mindfulness.
I care deeply about humanity and helping people understand themselves. Together, we’ll explore, make sense of, and begin to heal any pain or symptoms that are present. I believe a therapist can only meet you to the depth they’ve met themselves. Having walked through and healed my own complex PTSD, I’m able to hold others with depth and so much heart.

I have over 15 years experience working with individuals affected by loss, grief and trauma following sudden life events. This has included adult and paediatric palliative care, fertility and IVF, and supporting individuals experiencing the loss of a missing person. I have extensive practical experience sitting with individuals during very difficult situations and understand the need to build a trusting relationship in session. I have been one of only a handful of counsellors to work in the missing persons sector and understand the trauma and loss experienced by families.

I have a lot of experience and a particular interest in working with people who experienced childhood abuse, trauma, and neglect, and are struggling with the pain that can carry through to adulthood including low self-worth, anxiety, feeling like a failure, perfectionism, difficulties in relationships, addiction, and struggle with body image. A core part of many emotional issues is inner-criticism and I am passionate about working with this very human, yet very painful way of treating ourselves.

I am an experienced Clinical Psychologist helping individuals struggling with eating disorders, disordered eating and binge eating, and body image issues. I work with clients who are ready to overcome their inner critic and the habits that keep them stuck. I work with people who don't want to just focus on diet and weight (although this can be important at times), but also get to the root cause of their relationship with food and their body. Additionally, I support those trapped in patterns of unhelpful relationships, anxiety, self-criticism, perfectionism, and chronic unhappiness, guiding them toward a new, healthier path.

Attachment-based Counsellors

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioural Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
