Hi, I’m Caitlynn. Many of the people I work with appear capable and put-together on the outside, yet internally feel overwhelmed, anxious, exhausted, or highly self-critical. They may find themselves overthinking, struggling to switch off, putting others' needs first, or repeating patterns in relationships that leave them feeling stuck. Therapy offers a space to slow down, make sense of what you're experiencing, and develop a different relationship with yourself. Together, we explore the underlying patterns contributing to your difficulties while also finding practical ways to navigate thoughts, emotions, and relationships.

I draw on the Gottman Method for couples, as well as CBT, DBT, and trauma-informed approaches for individuals.
Are you and your partner feeling distant, stuck in the same arguments, or more like housemates than a couple? Or are you carrying something on your own that feels too heavy to keep managing alone? I'm Elaine, a counsellor in Mont Albert North, VIC, and I work with couples and individuals across Melbourne's East, including Box Hill, Balwyn, Surrey Hills, and Camberwell. I work with couples experiencing relationship difficulties, communication breakdown, infidelity, the transition to parenthood, marital stress, and divorce. I also see individuals carrying anxiety, depression, or life transitions they can't seem to shift.

Apart from person-centered, CBT, DBT & ACT, I utilize Schema Therapy and EMDR to help adults process the past, understand their present reactions, and create lasting, structural change.
Have you ever understood your struggles logically, but felt like your body and emotions haven't caught up? Many of my clients arrive feeling 'stuck' in painful, repetitive loops—whether that’s a challenging relational pattern, persistent anxiety, or past memories that still feel vivid and heavy today. I specialise in working with adults who haven't experienced the shift they hoped for through traditional talk therapy, guiding them to unpack core schemas and process deep-seated trauma using EMDR.

I use evidence-based approaches like CBT-E, Schema Therapy, EMDR, and DBT with a compassion focused approach.
You're Asian Australian, high-functioning, and carrying the silent weight of family pressure, perfectionism, and cultural beauty standards. You’ve learned that achievement is the bare minimum and emotional suppression is the only way to belong. Navigating intergenerational trauma or feeling "not Asian enough" is exhausting. ' You don't need to translate your life to get help. Previous therapy felt frustrating when explaining cultural context took up half the session. I understand why you can't just "go no contact," why career feels like survival, and why shame runs deeper than Western textbooks realize.

Many of the adults I work with have ADHD and feel like they are constantly trying to keep up with life’s demands. Focus can come and go, routines are hard to hold, and energy often runs out before the day is done. ADHD rarely sits on its own. Anxiety, low mood, sleep problems, or chronic health concerns often overlap. My clients want to understand how their mind works, reduce the mental load, and build ways of working with their attention and energy rather than fighting it.

Let’s be honest. Walking into therapy can feel intimidating. The old-school image of psychology is still very “serious face, intimidating suit, big words you didn’t ask for.” That’s not what happens here. I’m a psychologist who genuinely believes therapy shouldn’t feel like you’re being analysed under fluorescent lighting. It should feel collaborative, clear & human. You deserve support that makes sense in real life. No "hacks". My approach is simple. I get to know you properly. We figure out what’s getting in your way. And we build tools that actually work in your day-to-day life. No unnecessary jargon.

Dialectical Behaviour (DBT) Therapists
Who is DBT for?
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?
The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behaviour and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?
Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behaviour, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?
Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioural change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behaviour; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
