You might be a parent trying to better understand your child’s behaviour, or a young person feeling overwhelmed by school, friendships, or emotions that are hard to explain.
I take a warm, collaborative, and neuroaffirming approach—helping children, adolescents and adults to better understand themselves and supporting families to feel more connected. I work across a range of areas including Autism, ADHD, learning and emotional challenges, and I tailor therapy to each young person’s strengths, needs, and developmental stage.

Many people seek therapy to reduce distress and find relief from ‘symptoms’. Therapy can also provide opportunities to examine and understand ourselves, notice 'stuck' or unhelpful patterns, and develop new, more satisfying ways to manage emotions and navigate relationships. I am a clinical psychologist who sees people seeking therapy for any number of reasons. I work with people experiencing difficulties in relationships, grief and loss, trauma (including complex and relational trauma), depression and mood disturbance, anxiety, chronic health issues, and stress.

My interest lies in helping individuals living with trauma, anxiety-related disorders, interpersonal difficulties and emotional regulation issues. I have a particular passion for working with C-PTSD and sexual trauma. I am dedicated to helping clients improve their relationship with themselves (and by extension others) through developing a self-compassionate understanding of their emotional difficulties. From this place we move forward together to process "stuck" memories and explore the development of new ways of being in the world.

Are you seeking Schema Therapy so you can explore the lifelong schemas that cause stress at home and work? Schemas such as unrelenting standards, self-sacrifice, emotional deprivation, abandonment and approval-seeking undermine our confidence, our mood and our wellbeing. The clients I see are aware that they have patterns that are not working for them at home, in their relationships and in their family life but don't know how to shift them. Schema Therapy improves the way we relate and 'talk' to ourselves, which creates a ripple effect on our self-esteem, our sense of purpose in life, our core values, and our key relationships.

I work with clients from all walks of life who are seeking a deeper understanding of themselves and lasting change. Psychological distress can present in many areas of life, such as anxiety, depression, relationship and intimacy, identity, boundaries, play, work and vitality. Support and exploration of your individual experiences and the underlying meaning can provide insight and greater integration of the unconscious, providing relief from internal conflicts and previous maladaptive ways of functioning.

Parenting Therapists
What does therapy for parenting look like?
Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?
When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?
Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?
Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
