Psychoanalytic Psychologists and Therapists in Albert Park, VIC
During our sessions, we put our minds together to give you our undivided, focused attention. I listen to you on many levels. I attend to the words you use, the patterns of your stories and what is not said. It is a deep and curious listening. I help you find the courage to see yourself with clarity and honesty. My strength as a therapist is understanding the unique felt experience of each person I see. This forms the basis of our work together and the place from which we make sense of the difficulties that bring you to therapy.

If you are reading this, something in your relationship probably matters enough to protect. Perhaps there has been an affair or a painful discovery. Perhaps the two of you have drifted — courteous at the dinner table, distant everywhere else. Or perhaps nothing is broken at all, and you simply want to know one another more deeply before a lifelong commitment, or to strengthen what you already have. I work with couples, and only with couples, and there is very little in a relationship I have not sat with.

I am a clinical psychologist and psychoanalytic psychotherapist offering individual therapy to adults experiencing a wide range of emotional and psychological difficulties.
My therapeutic approach is grounded in psychoanalytic theories which focus on gaining a deeper understanding of the self and one’s subjective experience. Rather than targeting symptoms in isolation, psychoanalytic psychotherapy seeks to uncover the underlying unconscious processes that shape patterns of thought, feeling and behaviour.

I work with adults who are used to holding everything together, but find the strategies that got them this far are no longer working. You may feel overwhelmed, anxious or depleted; be navigating grief, relationship difficulties or significant change; or notice the same patterns repeating despite your efforts to shift them. Some people arrive in crisis. Others cannot name one defining problem, only a persistent sense that the life they are living no longer quite fits. You do not need a perfectly formed reason for seeking counselling. Curiosity, discomfort or a readiness for something to change is enough.

I am a psychoanalyst working with adults and children. I offer support in times of crisis and long-term treatment to address sources of inner conflict, anxiety and distress. My work is grounded in the ethics, theory and practice established by Sigmund Freud and elucidated by Jacques Lacan. It recognises and seeks to articulate one’s singular subjectivity, beneath the identities and expectations we unknowingly adhere to.

I offer psychoanalytic psychotherapy and psychoanalysis.
I work with people who may be feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or uncertain, and who are seeking more than a quick fix. Often, the people that I work with are thoughtful, sensitive, and curious about themselves and their relationships, and have a sense that there is something deeper to be understood about themselves. They may be struggling with recurring patterns, emotional pain, or difficulties that feel hard to explain. In our work together, I offer a steady, reflective space to explore these experiences, supporting greater self-understanding and the possibility of meaningful, lasting change.

I work with individuals who are ready — whether confidently or cautiously — to explore what’s happening beneath the surface. You may be feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or navigating challenges such as anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, substance use, or difficulties with identity and relationships.
I often support people experiencing mental health concerns, alcohol and other drug (AOD) challenges, and members of the LGBTIQ+ community seeking a safe and supportive space.
My approach is warm, collaborative, and down-to-earth. Together, we work at your pace using evidence-based strategies to help you feel heard, empowered, and supported

I am a Zurich-trained Jungian Analyst and I enjoy working with a very wide range of clients. Over my decades in practice, this has included medical and aviation professionals (who sometimes have a hard time finding a safe space to talk), gay and lesbian clients, those facing death - their own or that of someone close, and those men and women, sometimes quite young, trying to find themselves and stay true whilst making their way in a confusing and demanding world. Artists and writers are also very welcome.

In my psychoanalytic practice it is through speaking freely, and being listened to with careful attention, that people can find new possibilities with the difficulties and impasses that have characterised their lives so far.
A psychoanalytic approach is suited to a wide range of people including those experiencing depression, anxiety, trauma, addiction, grief or relationship issues. This approach can also be suitable for people who have been diagnosed with mood, personality or psychotic disorders.

I help men get on top of anger, stress, and habits that have taken over the same way you'd fix anything properly: work out what's wrong, then fix it right, not patch it over. Think less therapist, more personal trainer: you do the work, I guide and keep you accountable. My approach draws on CAT and CBT, working a bit like detective work, mapping the pattern, tracing where it comes from, working out what's driving it. I'm a former tradie who had to get off the tools due to a disabillity. I am Online, Australia-wide, evenings and weekends. Mainly men, but anyone who's a good fit, including LGBTQIA+ clients, is welcome

Psychoanalytic Therapists
Does psychoanalytic therapy work?
Psychoanalytic therapy derives from the work of Sigmund Freud. In this type of therapy, discovering buried thoughts and emotions from the unconscious will help a person work through their difficulties and negative behaviours. Research shows that psychoanalytic therapy can be highly effective, with patients reporting improvement in mood, quality of life, and overall well-being.
How long are people typically in psychoanalytic therapy?
Traditional psychoanalysis is in-depth and is conducted in five sessions every week. Today, modern psychoanalytic therapy is less intense and normally incorporates as few as one or two sessions a week. In some cases, positive change can occur quickly. However, if the condition, difficulty, or behaviour is deep-seated, improvement may require many months or years of therapy.
Is psychoanalytic therapy suitable for young people?
Children and adolescents can benefit from this type of therapy. Many kids and teens are often unable to form and communicate their thoughts and emotions. Psychoanalytic therapy uses specific techniques such as dream analysis, symbolism, and free association or word association; all of which can be useful tools for less-communicative young people. Through this therapy, a patient will hopefully make connections between what they feel inside and how the world works outside.
Can psychoanalytic therapy be done online?
Modern-day psychoanalytic therapy is very different from traditional psychoanalysis. While an individual can sit face-to-face with the psychoanalyst for multiple sessions a week, they do not have to. Today, psychoanalytic therapy can be effectively conducted online or by phone. The key is that the individual confronts what is repressed and avoided, and this can be done whether in person or over online video.
