I am Dr Vanessa Petersen, a Clinical Neuropsychologist. At Neurotype, I assess children and young people aged 6 to 25. My particular interest is in layered, complex profiles: autism alongside ADHD, giftedness with a learning difference, twice-exceptional kids, anxiety that doesn't quite explain itself. I threw out the rigid, clinical approach years ago. I believe young people show us who they are when they feel safe enough to. My job is to make that possible through child-led, neurodiversity-affirming assessment and school advocacy that bridges the gap between report and classroom. A diagnosis without understanding is just a label.
I have over 15 years of experience across private practice and public health, which shapes how I think about these assessments.
Beyond the work itself, I'm coffee nerd, a reluctant student of Pokémon, and a parent whose kids can rattle off the name of every dog they meet on our morning walks.
