I believe life can be complex and we all, at one time or another, will need support to navigate challenging circumstances life has thrown our way. I aim to help clients feel comfortable accessing therapeutic support so we can work effectively together to facilitate positive change for their wellbeing.I work with adult individuals experiencing stress, burnout, life changes, grief, depression, anxiety, trauma, low self-esteem, relationship and health issues.I use a biopsychosocial framework (exploring life circumstances, history, health, strengths, family and social systems) and work collaboratively with you throughout the process.

Modern life can be challenging. You may be worried about climate change, experiencing grief, or troubled by a difficult relationship. Perhaps you're feeling stuck, anxious, or in a constant low mood. There might be frequent arguments, a sense of doom, or an inability to enjoy life. Finding useful help is hard and you may be uncertain how to proceed. This is a good place to start. I focus on the mental health impacts of life's big challenges - climate change, relationships, grief, and aging. I provide personalised therapy to relieve anxiety, reduce despair, restore relationships, and create positive change.

I’m an Associate Professor in Psychotherapy at ACAP University College, where I am fortunate to have the opportunity to coordinate the largest Master’s Program in Counselling and Psychotherapy in the country. I also supervise emerging psychotherapists, social workers, and psychologists—while maintaining a small clinical practice. I’ve trained extensively in psychodynamic–interpersonal therapies, received gestalt supervision, and Eastern contemplative traditions, particularly Buddhist psychological traditions. In my research I advance transpersonal psychology and psychedelic-assisted therapy in Australia and internationally.

My passion is working with victim-survivors of child sexual abuse, however, I work with a wide range of people impacted by various traumas and adverse events. The people I work best with are those wanting to work on their challenges at a deeper level and develop a greater understanding of themselves. My favourite modality to employ is schema therapy, which integrates beautifully with many other therapeutic techniques. I have trained extensively in various evidence-based modalities so that I am able to tailor interventions to your unique needs.

I have worked with individuals from all walks of life. Most of my work has been with individuals working in the emergency services context, as well as those with experiences of long-standing and ongoing anxiety. This might be individuals looking to get a better a handle on their nervous system in order to better manage the challenges and demands life throws at them. These individuals are usually already highly reflective and have a readiness and willingness to work on issues affecting and surrounding them.

I enjoy working with a strengths-based, positive psychology approach that draws on a range of evidence-based therapies.
I support people navigating the in-between spaces. Maybe you are adjusting to a new role, feeling overwhelmed, or exploring identity, values, and direction. As a clinical psychologist and board-approved supervisor based in Tasmania, I created Stone by Stone Psychology to offer a safe, supportive online space for those feeling stuck, lost, or burned out. I understand the challenges of early adulthood; the unrelenting competing demands, career building, juggling relationships, managing perfectionism and burnout - the turbulence of it all!

After over a decade in the mental health field, I realised most people aren’t broken — they’re disconnected from who they really are. We’re taught to be “normal,” to fit in, and to hide our truth. I created Untherapy Room to help people return to their authentic selves. My work focuses on awareness, honesty, and freedom — supporting you to see yourself clearly and live life in a way that feels real and aligned.

My ideal client would be someone experiencing lack of intimacy & frequent conflicts in their relationship. Their presenting issues might involve lack of trust & unhealthy ways of communication. They would need skills & strategies to communicate more effectively & ways to make repairs after conflicts. They would also need tools to rebuild trust and foster intimacy. Another ideal client would be someone who has experienced trauma, childhood or more recent. They might experience anxiety, flashbacks & nightmares. Their goals would be to process the trauma & better manage their distressing thoughts & feelings.

Positive Psychology Therapists

How does positive psychology therapy work?

Positive psychology therapy derives from the work of Martin Seligman of the University of Pennsylvania. He and others developed the field of positive psychology building on humanistic theory. Positive psychology therapy is similar to acceptance and commitment therapy, and it essentially quiets emotional distress through positivity, contentment, and well-being. This therapy does not reduce the individual to symptoms and conditions.

When do I know if I need treatment using positive psychology?

If an individual is overwhelmed by emotional distress and general negativity, they may feel trapped. A positive psychology therapist can help them view their emotions and behaviours differently, and approach life with a better understanding of their positive strengths. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from positive psychology therapy?

The patient may be asked to explore their signature strengths. The therapist will also ask the individual to talk about their goals, which should be specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and timely. Discussing negative experiences and symptoms is important, but so is the exploration of positive experiences. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviours and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more positive and fulfilling way. This therapy is proactive and may use forgiveness, gratitude, hope, and compassion to help reframe negativity.

Is positive psychology effective in therapy?

Positive psychology therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with eating disorders benefit from this type of intervention. This therapy encourages the person to reframe their distressed thoughts and move into healthier patterns of functioning. This therapy also aims to move an individual toward what works well in their life. Positive psychology therapy can elicit lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioural habits.
