I welcome clients who may be feeling lost, overwhelmed, or isolated, seeking a compassionate, culturally sensitive space to process emotions and rebuild confidence. My practice name 'Intinnua' is a combination of the Irish words intinn (in-tin) meaning mind or spirit, and nua (noo-ah) meaning new, reflecting an ethos of recovery, healing and renewal. Your goal is to heal, grow, and regain a sense of empowerment and renewal, to feel understood, validated, and supported as you navigate life’s challenges. I especially welcome clients seeking support for perinatal loss, migrant issues, and older clients navigating life transitions.

I work with adolescents and adults to help them resolve difficulties or problematic patterns they are struggling with. These may include issues with mood, anxiety, relationships, or work. You may not be able to put your finger on it, yet know there is a problem that is getting in the way of leading a fulfilling life. You may have tried everything you can think of to improve your situation, and be experiencing a range of painful feelings, including frustration, hopelessness, or feeling stuck. There may be mixed feelings about seeking help.

'We don't get wounded alone and we don't heal alone' (Carl Jung). Psychological wounds regardless of how old there are can be very difficult to heal. They can manifest themselves as chronic pain, fatigue, anxiety and various mental health issues. They can make you feel stuck, disconnected, overwhelmed, or lost. If you are reading this, you are most likely looking for answers and you would like to make some changes. This is an important step in your journey and I would like to support you through it.

My approach is grounded in authenticity, genuineness, and unconditional support, ensuring you feel seen and heard in a space free of judgment. Rather than focusing on diagnoses, I prioritise understanding what is happening inside of you as a result of what has happened to you, offering both compassion and empathy for your experiences. Through integrative somatic trauma therapy, my deepest intention is to support not just your thoughts, but your felt experience — creating space for deep, embodied healing at a pace that feels safe and right for you.

Hi! I'm Rachael, a counsellor and psychotherapist working out of the Inner North Adelaide suburbs. I am a warm and empathic practitioner with a good sense of humour. After experiencing abuse in my younger years and experiencing some bumps in the road later on, I chose to step into the field of counselling and psychotherapy. My work as a Pastoral Care Worker at a local school and other experiences working with young people have shown me the importance of early intervention while my lived experience has shown me the possibility for recovery later in life.

As a registered counsellor and psychotherapist, my role is to help you untangle what’s keeping you stuck, make sense of how your experiences have shaped you, and find strategies that truly work for you. I specialize in relational and couples work, helping people gain clarity, strengthen connection, and have more meaningful conversations in their relationships. Trauma is real. It affects us all. Over time, we develop coping mechanisms that help us survive—but are they still serving you? Therapy is an opportunity to increase awareness, identify new tools, and create meaningful change that supports your well-being. The Problem Is the Problem—Not You. Do you know how to fill your emotional fuel tank? Many of us push through life running on empty. I work with clients to recognize patterns, develop self-compassion, and build new routines and rituals that foster sustainable change. As a psychotherapist—not a psychologist—I focus on self awareness and exploration of your needs.

Clients who engage with me are committed to personal growth and are seeking an individual who can often just be a witness to their reality. Personal growth requires courage, courage to be honest and courage to admit that there are certain components in our lives we are unable to change. I have been privileged to be part of the self-actualization journey of numerous individuals over the years and I have come to understand that we all have the ability to evolve. Therapy is not for the faint hearted yet it is one of the best investments in yourself you will ever make.

Attachment-based Counsellors

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioural Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
