Reaching out for support can feel like a big step, especially when you're carrying anxiety, sadness, relationship struggles, or a sense that something in your life isn’t quite working the way you hoped. My goal is to create a space where you feel heard, understood and able to explore what’s really going on beneath the surface. Together we explore the root causes of challenges such as anxiety, depression, ADHD-related difficulties, relationship concerns, self-esteem struggles, identity, addictions, trauma, and emotional dysregulation. I also enthusiastically welcome conversations around life direction, purpose, and spirituality.

You're not the problem. But something in you keeps acting like you are. Amy Doyle offers holistic counselling for anxiety, overthinking and the relationship patterns you can't seem to break. Amy works with thoughtful, self-aware people who feel like they should be okay - but internally, something still feels hard. They often struggle with overthinking, replaying conversations, and feeling too emotional or reactive in relationships. They understand their patterns, but can’t seem to change them in the moment. Many are tired of trying to get it right and still feeling like they’re getting it wrong, especially in close relationships.

I began my career as a lived experience worker within Qld Health over 15years ago and so I understand first hand the challenges that can come from navigating the mental health systems and accessing appropriate supports, particularly when unwell. My own lived experience of chronic ill mental health has heavily influenced my career and the way I engage with those I support. I whole heartedly believe that while we can have very similar experiences, the way those experiences impact and shape us are completely different and so too is the journey to mental wellbeing.

Somatic Therapists
How does somatic therapy work?
Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?
Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?
Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
