Reaching out for counselling can feel daunting. I provide a calm, confidential space where you don't need the right words or a clear plan. We start where you are. We work gently & practically to gain understanding and reconnect with strengths. People often reach out when: They feel anxious or constantly on edge. Their mood has been low for longer than they expected. Grief or loss feels heavier than it “should.” Life changes have unsettled their confidence. Work or relationships feel overwhelming. They are exhausted from trying to manage everything alone. They want support around body image, weight, or long-term health struggles..

We were each made to be someone with something unique and wonderful to bring to the world. However, things can happen that cause us to become disappointed, hurt and confused. We can carry wounds from the past. We can develop patterns of relating to ourselves and others that keep us stuck and unhappy. We have a yearning for a better life but we aren’t sure how to achieve it. I have a passion for helping individuals become the person they were meant to be.

Hello, it's lovely that you've stumbled upon me. Maybe it won't be the last time we stumble upon each other. I'm a trauma-informed clinical social worker who works with young people (10+) and adults to navigate all things relationships. Relationships with food, self, others, and the big scary world. What does that mean in practice? Whatever is important to you and is impacting you is something we can work through together. I thrive in complexity. If you've been told you're "too much," that your presentation is “too complex”, or that you need to be more stable before someone can really work with you - hello and welcome!

I have over sixteen years of experience listening to clients who feel unheard, confused, angry, disheartened or hopeless about past or current difficulties in their life. Difficulties may be related to loss, relationship breakdown, parenting, children, life transitions, daily family struggles, health issues, or stress management. Perhaps there is something specific they would like to change, or they may need to explore before being ready to discover some goals and options. People are generally seeking to feel heard, validated, and guided, while having their individual perspectives and preferences valued.

Cognitive Behavioural (CBT) Therapists
How does cognitive behavioural therapy work?
Cognitive behavioural therapy works by exploring how your thoughts affect your emotions and experiences. CBT helps you identify distortions in your thinking. For example, you may tend to jump to the worst case scenario catastrophising or think in extremes (all-or-nothing thinking). A therapist can teach you how to push back against those thoughts to ultimately change your feelings and behavior for the better. They can also provide coping skills to better deal with stressors and challenges.

When do I know to seek treatment with cognitive behavioural therapy?
It’s reasonable to consider cognitive behavioural therapy if you struggle to manage difficult emotions or behaviors to such an extent that you are not getting the most out of life on a day-to-day basis. If you want a shorter term, concrete, skills-based approach, CBT is a great option. (By contrast, other types of therapy may devote more time to exploring your past and its effects.) The decision to seek CBT also depends on the condition you’re treating; CBT is an effective treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, and many other disorders.

How can I find a cognitive behavioural therapist for someone else?
To find a cognitive behavioural therapist for someone else, you may want to begin by discussing the person’s problem, researching cognitive behavioural therapy, and assessing whether the approach is the right fit. You could then reach out to a few cognitive behavioral therapists in this directory, explain the scenario, have a consultation with those available, and determine who could be a good match.

Why is CBT such a popular form of therapy?
CBT has become a popular form of therapy because it is effective and accessible. Robust research has demonstrated that CBT is an effective treatment for many mental health conditions. And CBT can be learned in relatively few sessions, which means that many people can engage in the process, afford it, and see results quickly. It involves learning concrete skills such as disputing unhelpful thoughts; these skills can also be taught and spread widely.
