Hi, I'm Sarah – a Brisbane-based Clinical Psychologist. I believe effective therapy involves both safety and courage. You need a space where you can feel supported, while also being challenged to explore parts of yourself that feel difficult or unfamiliar. My approach is grounded in relational psychodynamic theory, which means I’m interested in how our past and present relationships shape who we are and how we feel. I often work with people who want to understand themselves more deeply and create more meaningful, fulfilling lives.

How are things going for your children? You might have stumbled across something thats really worried you. Maybe they've pulled back into social media or video games. Perhaps they're having some eating issues. The GP may be saying they have anxiety or depression. If you're still reading, things are probably feeling pretty off between you, your kid(s) and other important people. These problems might have you wondering if you've stuffed up as a parent, or fearing the worst if things don't improve. It's painful because it really matters. I have helped hundreds of families, facing problems like these, get their lives back on track.

I am a registered clinical psychologist offering brief and long-term psychotherapy for adults and adolescents (16+), who not only wish to address specific mental health concerns, but also to deepen their self-understanding and make sense of their inner world.
As a therapist, I am warm, genuine, and curious. I work from a predominantly psychodynamic and attachment-based approach, and adopt a trauma-informed framework in my work. My belief is that change occurs through exploration and developing an in-depth understanding of your symptoms, rather than simply eliminating them.

I offer individual psychotherapy to children, adolescents, and adults in-person at my Brisbane CBD office and by telehealth (for older adolescents and adults).
I practise psychodynamic psychotherapy. While outcomes from psychotherapy are different for each person, beyond relief from psychological distress, you may find yourself more accepting or capable of navigating the painful experiences that are typical of life, discover greater personal freedom, or no longer feel afraid to take up space in your relationships.

You may find yourself stuck in patterns of thinking, feeling, or relating that repeat despite your efforts to change. Perhaps anxiety, depression, or relationship struggles feel overwhelming, or past experiences still shape how you see yourself and others. You want more than symptom relief—you want to understand yourself deeply, break free from old patterns, and build healthier, more fulfilling relationships. Therapy offers a space to explore these challenges with curiosity and compassion, allowing for lasting emotional growth.

I believe that anyone can benefit from psychological support and coaching. You don’t need to be ‘disordered’ to see a psychologist. What you can expect when you work with me is that I consider the relationship between the mind, body and brain in my approach. I also strongly focus on the therapeutic relationship; you need to feel comfortable with your therapist in order to maximise your outcomes from the sessions. I can help with anxiety, depression, stress, self-esteem, self-confidence, ADHD and Autism. I work with adolescents and adults. I also work through a cultural lens and understand the Asian immigrant experience.

I work with adults experiencing anxiety, stress, grief, loss, burnout, substance use, and major life transitions. My approach helps people deepen self-understanding, strengthen relationships, develop healthier coping strategies, and create meaningful change. I also support parents who feel overwhelmed by their child’s emotions or behaviour, especially when their own stress or past trauma is triggered. Therapy helps make sense of these patterns, builds connection, and fosters confidence in responding with empathy and consistency—at home and in school settings.

Teen Counsellors

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
