I work in a trauma-informed and strengths-based manner, and believe significant change can come about within the holding space of a safe therapeutic relationship.
I am passionate about helping you to find freedom, authenticity and connection, through resolving patterns that may be limiting you. The therapeutic process can help you to make sense of, adapt to, and heal from difficult life experiences. Therapy can also be a reflective space to get clearer on your values and directions in life; to connect with your innermost wishes for your future and bring these into being. I have great respect for the courage involved in seeking support and aim to provide a non-judgemental space where you can safely explore what's on your mind.

Having been raised in a emotion-denying household, then spent six years in the Military and then the trauma of divorce, I use my personal experience to assist couples to strengthen their relationship bond by expressing what is really going on beneath the surface of conflict or loss of closeness that they might experience.
Relationship issues effect most aspects of your life. If we feel safe and secure in our home with our partner, then we can face all other adversity so much easier. I specialize in assisting that close connective bond with Attachment Focused processes using Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy as well as many other modalities which are useful towards the same goal. I believe couple work needs much more time than the standard 50-60 minutes so ask that you be prepared to stay in session between 90 to 120 minutes.

I use different approaches, such as trauma-responsive, humanistic, existential, somatic, person-centred, attachment theory, neuroscience, and narrative, to help you understand your experiences.
Life can sometimes feel overwhelming, especially when we're trying to navigate our emotions, relationships, work, or even our own expectations. It’s not always easy to understand why we do what we do or how to make the changes we want. If you’re looking to become a more authentic version of yourself and gain a deeper understanding of your actions, therapy can be a powerful tool to help you on that journey. There are times when we just need to speak our truth—without fear of judgment or the worry that our words might be misunderstood. If you are tired of living the same cycle, therapy will help you make the changes you desire.

My areas of specialisation are mental health support, anxiety and trauma.
We all go through hard things, but we don't have to go through them alone. As someone who has benefited greatly from counselling, I know how helpful it can be to have someone walk alongside you as you try to navigate challenges in life. I believe people intuitively know where they need to go and what they need to do to make things better for themselves, but due to the overwhelming pressures in daily life, sometimes we become disconnected from ourself and as a result feel lost, confused, and stuck. Should you decide to work with me, my role would be to guide you back home to yourself so that you can access your own inner wisdom.

I specialise in assisting clients with "simplifying life", and am experienced in dealing with symptoms of mental ill-health, anxiety, trauma, depression and high stress levels.
If you're looking for a run of the mill counsellor or mental health professional to assist with your mental health queries, feel free to contact one of my very capable colleagues. I look at life through a different lens, with a transpersonal -even spiritual- mindfulness-based filter. Expect to see life from a broader perspective, while still being very practical. Expect to work from the inside out: YOU will change, and then your circumstances will. Understanding how you (and your brain) operate will help you manage your emotions and behaviour more effectively. This, in turn, will make you less sensitive to (negative) emotion-shifts.

Trauma symptoms can overprotect us, and their mantra is "never that pain again".
Having harsh inner critics, addictions, being afraid of rejection, needing to be perfect or feeling numb or anxious are all symptoms of trauma, not signs of weakness or personality flaws. These are not disorders but our minds' best efforts to keep our heads above water. Not just an event but a mix of overwhelm and powerlessness causes trauma. Removal of love, constant criticism, excessive expectations or parents who struggled with their issues when we were young led to adaptations necessary for our survival. If any of these resonate, you are not alone. I talk to people like you. And like them, you, too, can heal.

Trauma and PTSD Counsellors

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
