⊹ Struggling with anxiety, depression, stress, relationships, addiction, or sleep? I can help.
If you find yourself getting stuck, are open to trying new things, and could do with someone in your corner, then we will probably work well together. I primarily work with men and women on relationships and work. I also often cover depression, anxiety, stress, and burnout, as well as deeper issues like beliefs, meaning, and values.

I am a general counsellor working with issues such as stress, anxiety, sleep, lifestyle, grief/trauma, relationships, parenting and women’s health.
I use evidence-based practice with a strengths based focus. The client may present with a particular issue but is always seen as a whole beyond the presenting issue. We work collaboratively to achieve the clients counselling goals, and to understand more about themselves and what is going on behind the presenting issue/s.

The shock of a frightening medical diagnosis, significant loss, or other traumatic event in our lives can severely overwhelm our nervous system leaving us feeling fearful, anxious, panicky, unable to relax or sleep, emotional and very reactive to everyone around us.
I specialise in building a trusting, respectful, therapeutic relationship in which you can feel safe to share your story and feel seen, heard and validated. Most importantly, I provide psycho-education about this normal response of the body/brain to stress and teach you simple ways to reduce that psychological distress through mindfulness-based techniques.

I can help people suffering from depression, anger, insomnia, anxiety.
There is a finality to symptoms such as insecurity, depression, anger and anxiety. Exploring one’s psyche can lead us on a path of transformation, creativity, authenticity to oneself and healing. Jungian therapy is a process suited to anyone with an interest in knowing more about themselves. As Jung said “one does not become enlightened by imagining figures of light, but by making the darkness conscious” and so Jungian therapy is a journey of awakening inner aspects one may not have realised they carried, aspects brought forth which may have hindered a connection to ourselves and to others.

Sleep or Insomnia Counsellors

How effective is treatment for insomnia?

The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.

Are there specific medications for sleep problems?

There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.

Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?

There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.

What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?

Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
