I believe most cases of anxiety, depression and addiction are symptoms of underlying complex trauma (CPTSD), originating from a wounded attachment system in childhood. My aim is to help people address the root of their trauma through therapy that is present and attuned to your needs while implementing IFS and Somatic approaches. Our work will effectively treat issues relating to self-worth, self-criticism and emotional self-regulation. Ultimately, therapy is about repairing the relationship you have with yourself, freeing you from the systems of internal conflict.

My experiential, bottom-up, attachment-based IFS-based therapy will help you recognise and transform the adaptations that were helpful responses to threats in the past but no longer serve you.
Having harsh inner critics, addictions, being afraid of rejection, needing to be perfect, feeling numb or anxious are all symptoms of trauma, not signs of weakness or personality flaws. Not disorders, but our minds' best effort to keep our heads above water. Trauma is often caused not by a single event, but by a mix of overwhelm and powerlessness over time. Removal of love, constant criticism, excessive expectations or parents who struggled with their issues when we were young led to adaptations necessary for our survival. If any of these resonate, you are not alone. I talk to people like you. And like them, you, too, can heal.

I incorporate evidence-based psychotherapy including Attachment-based Therapy, Trauma-Informed Expressive Art Therapy, ACT and Solution Focused Therapy.
Life can be challenging! Some may want to seek help but feel uncertain about it or ashamed to do so. Many don't realise that empathic and nonjudgemental support can go a long way in helping them. You may feel stuck in life struggling to move forward. You may feel like you are losing it no matter how hard you try or you may just be surviving.

The therapeutic process can help you to make sense of, adapt to, and heal from difficult life experiences. We can all be challenged from time to time regulating our emotional state. It can be a struggle to articulate whats going on for us and thats where it help's to talk and explore whats going on. Sometimes however, it is difficult to open up to family and friends, particularly when you are experiencing anxiety, depression, personal or work related stress or family/relationship concerns. As a Clinical and International Psychotherapist, I offer relief by providing emotional support, psycho-education and the ability to truly hear and challenge what is going on for you via flexible appointments, both in Person, Telehealth or Telephone.

Attachment-based Counsellors

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioural Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
