As an artist I approach this work through a theopoetic lens: art, symbol, and image become pathways of discernment, mediating between psyche and Spirit, form and mystery, word and silence.
My approach is contemplative and neuro-affirming, attentive to the particular textures of perception, imagination, and thought that shape each person’s encounter with reality. Many contemplative souls feel out of rhythm with the accelerated pace and instrumental logic of the present age. To live sensitively is to live vulnerably: to perceive what others overlook, to register dissonance where others adapt. Yet this very sensitivity often bears the tension of existing within a world increasingly enframed by the machine; where what cannot be measured or monetised is easily marginalised.

Having harsh inner critics, addictions, being afraid of rejection, needing to be perfect, feeling numb or anxious are all symptoms of trauma, not signs of weakness or personality flaws. Not disorders, but our minds' best effort to keep our heads above water. Trauma is often caused not by a single event, but by a mix of overwhelm and powerlessness over time. Removal of love, constant criticism, excessive expectations or parents who struggled with their issues when we were young led to adaptations necessary for our survival. If any of these resonate, you are not alone. I talk to people like you. And like them, you, too, can heal.

Sometimes life can be overwhelming, leaving us feeling lost or like an outsider. Sometimes the people around us don’t understand how we feel or don’t know how to support us. Whatever is going on for you right now, there is a way through. I know that within you is an innate wisdom. I enjoy helping people connect to their inner selves and find their own answers through exploration. It takes courage to see someone and discuss your inner life, it is an honour to be part of that journey and I don’t take the privilege lightly.

Art Therapy
How does art therapy work?
The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.
Does art therapy help with trauma?
Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.
How long does art therapy last?
The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.
What are the limitations of art therapy?
Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioural therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
