I also specialise in responding to harmful sexual behaviours, sexual abuse and treatment of criminal behaviours.
I offer a warm and caring approach focusing on outcomes in a trauma informed and developmentally appropriate way. I provide strategies that facilitate growth, reduce risk and encourage safety. Although mental health and behavioural issues can significantly impact individuals it is possible that therapy and support can reduce risk and improve daily function.

At the heart of my approach is creating a safe and supportive space where challenges can be explored with openness and curiosity. Therapy isn't about "fixing you" - it is about understanding your experiences, strengthening your coping skills and helping you move forward with confidence.

Counselling can be a way to gently bring difficult experiences into the light, without judgement, and understand what may be happening beneath the surface. The difficulties we experience often make more sense when we understand the experiences, relationships, and beliefs that have shaped us. I support people with anxiety, depression, grief, burnout, relationship difficulties, and more to develop greater self-awareness, process difficult emotions, and move towards meaningful change. Where helpful I incorporate nervous system awareness and regulation to help people feel more able to manage what life brings with steadiness and choice.

I have extensive experience working with trauma, including childhood sexual abuse, first responder and military-related trauma.
As a therapist, I endeavour to provide a gentle, reflective space in which we can explore your inner world together. One of our deepest needs is to form meaningful emotional bonds throughout life. The ways we experience and internalise relationships, together with our temperament, shape how we develop as individuals. When emotional needs go unmet, we can develop painful feelings, beliefs, and expectations about ourselves and others that obscure our authentic selves. My approach is to help you develop insight into and work through these experiences to foster lasting growth and self-understanding.

I am a Brisbane-based psychologist and psychodynamic psychotherapist in private practice, working with individuals (16+ years) and couples. My way of working tends to resonate with those who feel a quiet pull to understand themselves more deeply, and with those who sense that their relationships—both with themselves and others—could hold more ease and coherence. I try to approach each person as singular, attending not only to their symptoms or struggles, but to the particular texture of their inner world and the unfolding story of who they are becoming.

My passion is to help clients transform their lives and transcend by breaking old habits and limiting belief structures to truly live a life of happiness and freedom. I’m determined to help those break free from their patterns, barriers, to develop self-acceptance, and embody living a life to their fullest potential. I'm not content with merely addressing the symptoms you present; my focus is on tackling the very root causes that created those challenges in the first place.

When you’ve been carrying stress for a long time, it can feel like you're just surviving — disconnected from yourself, from others, and from the life you want to live. The body often speaks through unease, tension, or symptoms like anxiety, burnout, sleep issues, or chronic pain. These are not signs of failure — they’re messages asking for your attention and care.

Sexual Abuse Therapists
How do therapists treat sexual abuse?
A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.

Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?
Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.

How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?
Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.

Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?
As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
