When stress, anxiety, or past trauma begin to take over, it can feel exhausting and confusing — like your mind won’t slow down, your body won’t relax, and you’ve somehow lost touch with yourself. Many people I work with describe feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or stuck in survival mode, even when they’re doing their best to cope. I offer a gentle, grounded approach to counselling that helps you feel safe in your body again, calms your nervous system, & helps you reconnect with yourself. My work integrates a mindfulness & somatic (body awareness) based approach that recognises stress & trauma are held in the body, heart, & mind.

Does your child come home from school and unleash a meltdown worthy of an Oscar? Homework battles? Friendship dramas? Or maybe it’s you—lying awake at 2am, overthinking everything, and surviving on caffeine. You’ve tried pep talks, deep breaths, and maybe even bribery… but nothing sticks. What you really want is less chaos, more calm, and to feel like yourself (and your family) again. We get it—we’re parents and humans too, and we know life doesn’t always go to plan.

Are you stuck going round and round in circles, on the hamster wheel of life, or "making the same mistakes" in relationships, over and over again? I've been there myself. Maybe giving yourself time to pause, reflect, and gaining some new tools for your personal toolbox is all you need to start the journey to wholeness. You've been holding it together carefully. Work, relationships, responsibilities, all accounted for. But something has gone quiet inside. Not dramatically. Just gradually. You've become so serious about life that you've stopped feeling alive in it, and you can't remember when that happened.
You don't need a crisis to come to therapy. You need to feel like yourself again.
I'm Mae, a Thai psychotherapist based in Thornbury, Melbourne. I work with adults who are thoughtful, high-functioning, and quietly running on empty.

Life happens whether we feel ready or not. Change, stress, and difficult emotions don’t always wait until the timing feels right; and neither should your chance to feel better. You deserve to be living the life you want now, not just surviving and hoping things will settle someday.
I work mainly with young adults around anxiety, emotional overwhelm, identity and relationship concerns, and alcohol or other drug use, with experience supporting LGBTQ+ clients and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

How we feel has a big effect on how we see ourselves, others and our world. These feelings can be frustrating, scary, hurtful or worrying. They can either have been there for most of our lives, gradually crept up on us or come as a result of our current situation. Often, when we are struggling, the most challenging part is not understanding what we are feeling or thinking, understanding why or knowing what to do about it.

Attachment-based Therapists
Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?
Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.
What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?
Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.
How long does attachment-based therapy last?
Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioural Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.
Does attachment-based therapy work?
Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
