Offering a space where you can slow down, find peace and quiet from the noise and distractions, connect with nature and make time for yourself. I work with people, oftentimes women, who are seeking support around: • major life transitions, such as separation, burn-out, career change, parenting shifts, peri-/menopause • feeling emotionally depleted, unfulfilled or disconnected • shifting unhelpful patterns eg. perfectionism, people-pleasing, procrastination • (re-) connecting with a sense of self, their body & their needs • living life with more clarity, presence & meaning

Feeling tired, anxious or unsure about things can be overwhelming as the head talk gets louder, and we go into problem-solving-thought mode and we can become unclear about what the problem is. This cycle doesn't solve anything or give us clarity, it keeps nurturing the niggles and the feelings become the worries! So essentially, we start worrying about worrying and can get overwhelmed. This kind of free floating or anticipatory anxiety, doesn’t help to give us clarity or form a plan or move us forward. Instead, it takes up precious air-time and removes us from our connections, our relationships, our plans and our motivations.

My name is Marit, I am the founder of Liberation Counselling - a culturally empowering online therapy practice. My roots are deeply woven through continents and cultures — my mother is an Indian-Singaporean migrant, and my father was an Ethiopian refugee who made Australia home. Growing up as a first-generation Australian, I experienced the complexity of holding South-Asian and East-African cultures in my home, while also navigating the Western world. This lived experience has shaped my understanding of identity, belonging, and the ways systems of power quietly — and sometimes loudly — impact our lives.

You’re that high-achieving, resourceful woman who looks like she has it all together… but deep down, you feel lost and unsure of yourself. You’re constantly overthinking, second-guessing everything, and holding back tears in places where you’re expected to smile. You carry the weight of persistent stress, quiet anxiety, and complicated relationships. Now imagine this instead: sleeping and waking up in peace—not panic. Feeling confident in your relationships. Letting go of shame. Trusting again. Becoming the confident, beautiful version of you. Yes, you can heal—deeply and with God by your side.

Female Counsellors

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or because they feel more comfortable with a therapist of their own gender due to shared life experiences or perspectives. Considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender may matter or improve their therapeutic experience. The most important consideration is that a client is able to build a trusting relationship with their therapist.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist. For women, this could be because they believe that they will be able to better connect with a woman, and that a female therapist will be able to relate to their specific challenges and personal issues. It may be particularly beneficial for women to see a female therapist, for example, for gender-specific issues, such as sexism in the workplace, relationship issues, and gender roles. The most important factor in therapy is the client-therapist connection, and a therapist's gender as well as many other factors may play an important role in this.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
