I work with adults, couples, and families facing a range of issues including complex trauma, anxiety, depression, Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), grief and loss, addiction, parenting and relationship challenges.
Hi Im Tara, I'm a counsellor with experience working alongside individuals, couples, and families navigating trauma and mental health challenges. I offer a supportive and non-judgmental space where you can explore what’s happening beneath the surface — helping you identify thoughts, feelings, and behaviours that may no longer be serving you.

As both a registered Psychologist and a Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner, I can work with you to help improve both your mental health and your relationships with others. Mental clarity, new communication skills, relief from grief, anger or burnout are all possible if you are willing to start the work! My style is both empathic and challenging. We will work to identify the cause of your suffering, make sense of it and explore new beginnings. Therapy will sift through the best cognitive tools until we find an approach that is a match to you and to the goals you have set. Then its time for the next chapter.

I am an AHPRA Registered Psychologist with 21 years experience working with anxiety, depression and psychotic illnesses and the effect these have on mood regulation, psychotic experiences, personality, body image and eating habits and on use of substances as a coping strategy.
Stress and trauma affect the way in which we all think and behave. Our mind often gets stuck in this response and it is difficult to think and behave the way we want to. I work with how the mind, brain and body responds to stress and trauma. I work from a whole person perspective in ways we can improve everyday mood, emotional responses and the impact our personal distress has on relationships.

Gently we can point towards those deeper inner fears and open the heart so they can all be brought home without reliving events.
If you're looking at this site you're probably trying to find something or someone to help you move on from a difficult patch. We can't always change the world or others but we can always, by looking within, reframe circumstances so they more fully reflect a happier and brighter world. We all crave to live in a world where we are more truly aligned with our heart and its deeper longing. We only find that world when we can honestly say we love ourselves, which in turn enables us to love others. What is it that prevents us loving our self? Lets journey in this enquiry together.

I work with people who are seeking a deeper understanding of themselves. Together we explore "what hurts", what you desire and long for and how you relate to yourself and the world. Psychodynamic therapy respects the complexity of humans and looks to provide not only relief from symptoms, but the opportunity for a richer life.

Anxiety Therapists
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

What are the most common types of treatment for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
