Hi, I'm Nghi. I am a counsellor and social worker with over 20 years of experience supporting young people and adults in mental health, trauma counselling, and tertiary education. You may be sitting at the crossroads of uncertainty, unsure about the path ahead. You may be feeling stuck in your past, unable to move on. You may feel frozen by anxiety, unable to be fully present in the moment. Perhaps life has become so busy with responsibilities and expectations that you have forgotten how to meet your needs.

I love helping people to find their purpose and passions that they have lost while they are busy adulting. I specialise in anxiety and depression from age 18 to seniors. I also help with hiccups and life dramas that can trip us up along the way. I have a lot of lived experience and think that is invaluable that we focus on peoples strength and resilience. I am also experienced with WorkCover Claims having worked for them in a former life. I am happy to accept referrals for WorkCover, Victims Assist and DVA.

I have worked for many years in traumatic loss - in particular loss through homicide.
I have had a lot of experience with working with people and I very much appreciate the need to have someone listen, and I mean truly listen. Our world is often fast and furious, our lives more often than not quite chaotic, and it can be difficult to cope with the many hurdles that are thrown at us, and to find someone who actually offers their help unconditionally. My role as your Counsellor is to walk by your side, to respect the privilege that it is to share your story with you, and to perhaps work with you to help find the way forward. Sometimes it is just an ear that makes the difference.

Many of my clients are thoughtful people navigating uncertainty, loss, major life decisions, or periods where life simply feels stuck.
Sometimes the hardest part isn't deciding what to do. It's making sense of what's happening.

Relationship counselling, parenting issues, life and career transitions, depression and anxiety, death dying and bereavement, reproduction issues and any life matters you are needing to talk through and gain insight and understanding of.
Feeling tired, anxious or unsure about things can be overwhelming as the head talk gets louder, and we go into problem-solving-thought mode and we can become unclear about what the problem is. This cycle doesn't solve anything or give us clarity, it keeps nurturing the niggles and the feelings become the worries! So essentially, we start worrying about worrying and can get overwhelmed. This kind of free floating or anticipatory anxiety, doesn’t help to give us clarity or form a plan or move us forward. Instead, it takes up precious air-time and removes us from our connections, our relationships, our plans and our motivations.

Grief Therapists
How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
