Please be aware that I will be on personal leave from 13th September until 21st October. If you wish to book an appointment, please email me and I will reach out upon my return... The most important part of my role as a Psychologist is connecting, allowing my clients to share their story, at their pace and in their own time. I ensure that when they walk into my therapy room, I create a space of kindness, safety and compassion. My therapeutic approach is calm, gentle and client-focused.

I am taking new clients for telehealth, and Face to Face in Brisbane at Victoria Point. I am a general psychologist with over three decades of experience. I came to therapy with a non-pathologising view of symptoms and behaviour. My view is that the vast majority of symptoms of "mental illness" are an understandable response to various life circumstances. Some deep in our past, some in our present. I am passionate about helping people to heal, grow, and live full lives. Via telehealth, I can see clients in any location. I take WorkCover clients if you have been approved for psychology.

I enjoy helping clients who are experiencing life challenges and are stressed. It is rewarding to journey with clients as they take the initial step acknowledging they need help then be willing to look deeply within themselves as they learn ways to cope. My clients want to lead more satisfying and healthy lives, enjoy happier and more harmonious relationships (at home or work), and fulfil their potential. I help my clients achieve greater inner calm, resilience, health and wellbeing, and personal goals, so they enjoy their life, love and appreciate who they are, get off autopilot default mode, and be a positive force in the world.

I work with individuals battling with grief, loss and trauma. Losses occur for us all of the time and sometimes, they hit us so hard we need a little extra support. We may experience loss of relationships, transitionary times for our children starting school or leaving home, a passing of a family member or breakdowns in relationships. Some of these losses feel as though we aren't allowed to grieve and our practice is a safe space to do so. Life is busy and you shouldn't have to fit your healing around someone else's timeline; that's why I exclusively offer out-of-hours sessions after 5pm and on weekends.

How we feel has a big effect on how we see ourselves, others and our world. These feelings can be frustrating, scary, hurtful or worrying. They can either have been there for most of our lives, gradually crept up on us or come as a result of our current situation. Often, when we are struggling, the most challenging part is not understanding what we are feeling or thinking, understanding why or knowing what to do about it.

Female Counsellors

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
