My name is Anita and I work with my Therapy Dogs Bonnie and Noah. I have two areas of my psychology work that I am passionate about making available to you. The first being Animal Assisted Therapy, and the second Art in Therapy. Having the dogs in my studio provides you with an emotionally safe and nurturing space to explore the distress you are feeling, without getting lost in it. The dogs are always there as a welcome sensory connection to the present moment. I also use art (basket weaving /picture cards, paint and other) to help you explore parts of your story and emotional experience that you don't have the right words for.

In a safe, non-judgmental space, both individuals and couples are welcome to explore their feelings, challenges, and identities. This supports a deeper self-awareness of those behavioural patterns which impact relational experiences and overall personal well-being. In a society where traditional notions of masculinity often discourage vulnerability, I believe it is crucial to empower men to express themselves openly and authentically. By providing support tailored to an individual's unique experiences, I aim to help navigate personal struggles and improve connection, to ultimately create a fulfilling life.

Have you ever noticed that you seem to have some significant negative landmarks from childhood that: 1. Make you feel like you’re permanently damaged, or 2. Mean you are easily triggered into fight, flight or freeze mode in some way, or 3. Make you feel like you can’t cope as well as other people, or 4. Make it hard for you to be able to control your emotions, or 5. Make it hard for you to trust others, or 6. Somehow get in the way of being able to get or maintain healthy friendships or romantic relationships? If this sounds like you, you might have some unresolved trauma or overwhelming experiences that need processing to resolve.

Are you dealing with issues that you just can't talk over with friends or family? Sitting or walking and talking might help untangle those complicated situations that life brings us. I listen and support you so that you can find the way forward that feels right for you. An investment in your mental health? A person to witness what others might not be able to? A professional. Trained to be there to help you through whatever you may be facing. Alongside. Caring.

20 years experience as psychologist. Clinic located at Flaxton (near Montville). Want to try something different from the usual talk therapy. I still do that as well, but I also work with your unconscious mind to assist with new habit development and to let go of past learnt behaviours. Specialize in Gambling Addiction and Alcohol Addiction. The ability to understand your own story and being able to share that with others in whatever form that takes is what I consider to be aligned to the path of finding your true purpose.

For over 30 years, I’ve helped guide people through life’s toughest moments. Like many, I’ve taken some hard hits myself. Life was just “okay” until it fell apart in ways I never expected. I turned to psychology—not just to understand what was happening, but to find a way forward. What I learned didn’t just help me survive. It helped me live again. It became a passion and a mission to pass on the tools. Utilising a range of proven techniques— from (CBT) Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, (NLP), (EFT) , Person Centered, and mindfulness to name just a few. For couples, I generally use the Gottman Techniques.

Counselling done differently! It's important to me to take the 'clinical' aspect out of counselling, and I strive to provide a safe, non-judgement space to support my clients. You'll be welcomed into an understanding space that not only accepts but celebrates who you are, while building your unique strengths and resilience. My goal is to assist my clients to work through their thoughts and emotions to gain clarity as they move forward to their preferred future. I believe my job is to facilitate your own innate ability to grow and evolve.

We arrive in this world with no map, no compass, no directions. We are expected to "just know" how to navigate life, relationships intuitively. If only we came with an inbuilt GPS. Are you feeling a little/alot lost, alone or stuck? Is a sense of shame getting in your way holding you back from asking for help? We often wait until the small problem becomes big enough, frustrating enough, painful enough, desperate enough to seek help. The best time to deal with anything is when it is small and seemingly insignificant.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are members of the main professional associations, mainly the Australian Counselling Association and the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia. Psychologists must be registered in the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Most Social Workers listed in the directory are members of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given that professional memberships are not a statutory requirement for social workers, psychotherapists and counsellors in Australia, certain qualified professionals or organisations may choose not to maintain such memberships despite possessing the necessary qualifications. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and experience that enable them to do so in Australia.

Psychologists have earned a 4 year undergraduate degree in psychology and have completed a postgraduate internship or postgraduate degree. Psychotherapists generally have an undergraduate degree in a health related field in addition to 3-4 years of specialist training in psychotherapy and a period of personal psychotherapy. In order to belong to a professional organisation such as the ACA or PACFA, counsellors and psychotherapists are required to have completed a certain level of AQF qualifications and/ or an approved training course as well as clinical and supervision hours. Social Workers registered with the AASW are required to have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Social Work from an accredited institution.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, the cost of a therapy session in Australia could be between $100 and $250. If you have private insurance, your plan may cover some if not all of your sessions. You should contact your insurance provider to determine if they provide coverage for therapy sessions and to determine what, if any, requirements they might have in order for your sessions to be covered, such as a referral from your GP or medical specialist.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. The Better Access Scheme is a government program offering Medicare rebates for mental health care. To access the program you will need to be assessed and diagnosed by your GP and get a Mental Health Plan. This will allow you to receive up to 10 individual sessions and 10 group sessions a year with practitioners who accept bulk billing, with no out of pocket costs for you.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Therapists who are part of a professional organisation such as the ACA, PACFA, or the APS are bound by an ethical framework that requires them to uphold a confidentiality agreement. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there is the potential or known harm to the client or others or when a minor is in danger, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
