I’m a registered Counsellor with a strong focus on men’s issues – supporting men through times of transitions, crises of meaning and mid-life issues.
I reckon life is like a quest for hidden treasure - we travel a long way and spend a lot of time searching for something that we always had, right here within us. Counselling is a way of helping you find that hidden treasure. It’s not a bad way to explain how I can help – a treasure hunt – where we search together to find what is currently hidden.

I am a clinical psychologist accepting new referrals for adult, adolescent and child ADHD assessments. I do the legwork of cognitive assessment to assist the medical professional's diagnosis and treatment. I also provide learning disorder assessments. Therapeutically, I mostly help people with PTSD but I am not taking any new treatment patients at the moment. I regularly undertake assessments for criminal law (e.g., fitness to stand trial, insanity), compensation, family law, and the NDIS (e.g., SIL, progress reports, diagnosis).

20 years experience as psychologist. Clinic located at Flaxton (near Montville). Want to try something different from the usual talk therapy. I still do that as well, but I also work with your unconscious mind to assist with new habit development and to let go of past learnt behaviours. Specialize in Gambling Addiction and Alcohol Addiction. The ability to understand your own story and being able to share that with others in whatever form that takes is what I consider to be aligned to the path of finding your true purpose.

I have been working in the fields of family therapy and stress-related disorders and conditions for more than twenty-two years, since being an army chaplain both in the South African and Australian Defence Forces during times of military conflict (I served for extensive periods on the front lines of battle and experienced the horrors of traumatic incidents, death, loss, brokenness, anger and excessive aggression behind retaliation on the front line). Touched by the distress of those around me, I realised that we have to be proactive and therefore intentionally develop sustainable resilience before facing extreme distress!

Emotional struggles often signal that something in your life needs attention. Anxiety, mood fluctuations, addictions, and relationship struggles can leave you feeling stuck and unsure of how to move forward. Unprocessed challenging experiences, such as trauma, narcissistic abuse, domestic/family violence and addictions can shape how you see yourself and the world, making it hard to break free from harmful patterns.

When dysregulated, the human body is a complex system that can move into either a state of chaos or frigidity. Trauma can increase neural network inflammation, resulting in the immune system being dysregulated. Co-concurring conditions may include psychological problems such as depression, anger, and anxiety and physical health concerns such as cardiac conditions, digestion, and obesity. The purpose of this practice is to provide a research based approach based on current advances in Neuro Science such as Interpersonal Neurobiology and and how the Autonomic Nervous system is affected.

John sees developing a strong therapeutic relationship with his clients as the key to successful counselling. He helps clients work through life’s challenges in a nurturing, non-judgemental, safe space so that they can live the life that they choose. John believes that every client can achieve the outcomes they desire and that his role is to sit with them, understand where they are today and help them decide where they would like to be. Once his clients are clear on this, John helps them to use the strengths and resources they already have, and develop new skills that they may need, in order to achieve their life goals.

FACT IS: "It's not a matter of IF life will throw obstacles and hurdles at you... it's WHEN." For 20 years I have been counselling people from all walks of life (CEOs, surgeons and psychologists through to miners, call centre staff, managers and cleaners). And what I've noticed is how many people struggle with their relationships - that could be the relationship with their partner, their child, their parents, their co-workers, their mates or the biggest and most important relationship of them all... THEMSELVES! Now, they don't always know it's their relationship at first, because it might look like stress, conflict, anxiety, etc.

I am a mature male Registered Psychologist (Clinical Registrar) and a member of the EMDRAA and the APS.
Hi, I am Richard of The Psychology Clinic Landsborough, and I offer you a safe and supportive space, to help you explore and overcome your current life challenges. Together, we would identify your personal and therapeutic goals, which might include a focus on increased well-being and feelings of safety, improving interpersonal relationships, the development of healthy coping strategies to manage life stressors and changes, or to just "feel ok again". Your therapy goals could include, resolving unprocessed childhood traumas and associated negative self-beliefs, which may still be adversely impacting your enjoyment of life.

Male counsellors tend to be in the minority in this profession!.
I have decades of workplace conflict resolution experience, working with teams to identify and treat bullying and harassment. I have worked with clients who find themselves depressed and unable to live a true life due to grief and trauma. I understand the grief journey and how to support those that suffer during this time. I offer a non judgmental service.

How are things going for your children? You might have stumbled across something thats really worried you. Maybe they've pulled back into social media or video games. Perhaps they're having some eating issues. The GP may be saying they have anxiety or depression. If you're still reading, things are probably feeling pretty off between you, your kid(s) and other important people. These problems might have you wondering if you've stuffed up as a parent, or fearing the worst if things don't improve. It's painful because it really matters. I have helped hundreds of families, facing problems like these, get their lives back on track.

Often in today's world, we get caught up in so many distractions on the outside that we are not always aware of our internal experiences. We walk around anxious and depressed, with critical thoughts of ourselves and others, and often live a reality that is separate from our own personal wishes and desires. I believe that therapy provides a safe space to step away from all the external distractions and focus on identifying and responding to our emotional world in the most open and connected way, which may have been too painful to do in the past.

If you're looking for a run of the mill counsellor or mental health professional to assist with your mental health queries, feel free to contact one of my very capable colleagues. I look at life through a different lens, with a transpersonal -even spiritual- mindfulness-based filter. Expect to see life from a broader perspective, while still being very practical. Expect to work from the inside out: YOU will change, and then your circumstances will. Understanding how you (and your brain) operate will help you manage your emotions and behaviour more effectively. This, in turn, will make you less sensitive to (negative) emotion-shifts.

I meet people who feel that things are not working in their lives. They feel like the things that they are doing are not making them happy. They feel that there are barriers that are preventing them from living life the way they want. They often feel like they are lacking some quality they need to live the kind of life they want. They feel trapped in patterns of thought and behavior. No issue is too big or too small. I am interested in bringing my full attention to the serious consideration of anything that you feel needs to be talked about and thought about by a mental health professional. I specialize in mental health issues.

Male Counsellors

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with therapists of a specific gender. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
