As an Educational Psychologist, I embrace the challenges and unique dynamics of rural communities. I recognise the resilience and interconnectedness that define these areas. My passion lies in bridging educational gaps and supporting students, educators, and families. In rural practice, relationships matter deeply. I prioritize trust-building and active listening. Beyond academics, I consider emotional well-being, family dynamics, and community ties. By collaborating with local services, I aim to create a safety net that nurtures the whole child. As an advocate, I champion better mental health services and educational resources.

Life can sometimes look bleak and the way ahead is not always clear. If it seems that your fantasy protector is not coming to rescue you and your ship is not about to come in, then perhaps You are who you have been waiting for. To break the chains that restrict you, climb out of the box that confines you and overcome the past that haunts you. To take back your life and say - I am too Valuable to just give up or give in, too Strong to be diminished by the disapproval of others, too Tenacious to wait on someone else’s mercy and too capable and creative to accept their neglect and abuse as my unavoidable destiny.

To acknowledge all parts of ourselves is what our whole being wants. To have unconditional positive regard for ourselves, creates greater inner peace, self forgiveness and self-understanding. I offer a Holistic Approach supporting change. What's past, often becomes stuck and hard to move on from. A confidential space to express and find closure is what is needed. Sometimes words are not enough. I offer ways to articulate what the issues are, through the use of symbolism with miniatures or descriptive enquiry and mindfulness.

Over the years, I have used an eclectic approach to counselling, generally to fit with the needs of my clients, as of course we are all unique. I have developed an appreciation for the need of different modalities to bring about change using supportive, effective and evidence based approaches. Some clients feel more relaxed being able to sit and have a yarn, others may need go for a walk in nature while participating in a counselling session, others again may need some help to express their unconscious messages through expressive therapies. I would love to assist you to discover what works for you!

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
