If you’ve landed on this page, chances are you’ve been carrying a lot for a while. Maybe your relationship feels distant, tense, or stuck in the same arguments, and you long to feel close, understood, and on the same team again. Or maybe the struggle feels more personal — you’ve been feeling overwhelmed, anxious, low, or stuck in your own head, wondering why everything feels so hard. Many of the women and couples I work with feel disconnected, unheard, and unsure of how to move forward. Some are dealing with communication breakdown, trust issues, betrayal, parenting stress, or the pain of feeling alone in their relationship.

Our clients function in daily life but feel held back by unresolved issues like persistent sadness, anxiety, or past trauma. They may struggle with relationships, feeling isolated due to tension or conflict, and might also face internal challenges like unmanaged anger. They seek therapy to gain insight into their emotions, learn coping strategies, and heal from past wounds. Their goal is to feel more in control, improve relationships, and live a balanced, fulfilling life, aligned with their values and aspirations.

I see clients for all kinds of different reasons such as concerns related to depression and anxiety, grief & loss, life changes, parenting, relationship concerns or simply because they want to connect with a therapist to help maintain positive mental health. I may teach strategies, teach you about your brain and body, and how you can take charge of your own wellbeing. There is no ‘one size fits all’ approach, together we can decide what approach feels most comfortable and works best for you.

With over 20 years’ experience, I work with adults navigating anxiety, the aftermath of difficult or toxic relationships, trauma, emotional burnout, and stress-related challenges — including workplace and WorkCover presentations. Many people come to therapy feeling overwhelmed, stuck in patterns they don’t fully understand, or exhausted from holding everything together. Often, our responses make sense in the context of what we’ve experienced. Together, we explore the “why” beneath those patterns and begin making meaningful behavioural and cognitive changes that support healthier outcomes.

I offer compassionate, evidence-based trauma-informed counselling in the Redlands as well as surrounding areas (Cleveland, Victoria Point, Redland bay, Capalaba, Bayside Brisbane) supporting individuals, adolescents, couples and families through depression, anxiety, grief, chronic illness, stress, life transitions and relationship challenges. I don’t see people as ‘the problem’. Instead, we look at what’s happening around you — your relationships, roles, pressures, life stages, history, and supports — and how all of that is impacting how you’re feeling. It’s a way of working that focuses on understanding, not labelling.

Most issues that people experience have their origins in childhood when developmental needs were not met. Most parents mean well and do their best but because our culture is generally ignorant about the early needs of children the child has to learn how to adapt. For example a parent because of their upbringing may be easily angered. One way is for the child to move towards the parent by always trying to please the parent to ward off an angry episode. That is the behavior and the belief is "I have to be good or mummy will not love me." This establishes a mode that may not be helpful in later life in intimate relationships.

Women's Issues Therapists
How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can women prepare for therapy?
Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.

How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?
As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realised.

How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?
Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
