I am a PACFA registered clinical counsellor with over 20 years of experience, a certified Level 2 IFS psychotherapist, and a certified mindfulness teacher. I have a special interest in trauma informed, mindfulness and body-based approaches. I specialize in working with complex childhood trauma, but can also help with a range of other issues. My clients have often tried various psychological modalities which helped to some degree, but continued to struggle with certain issues. The combination of therapeutic modalities I use, particularly IFS, often helps people go much deeper within themselves and resolve those issues.

Experiences such as anxiety, depression, anger, self-criticism, avoidance, flashbacks, nightmares, social withdrawal, poor self esteem, perfectionism and/or addictive behaviours are amongst the common symptoms.
My main focus is helping my clients - through relationship with me - feel more connected to themselves and their lives, loved ones, friends and work. Many of my clients have had psychiatric diagnosis; ASD L2, (C) PTSD, BPD, ADHD. I offer Medicare rebates (10 sessions) and Bulk-Bill (No Gap Fee) as I am committed to making quality therapy accessible to the whole local community. I do offer a telehealth option for sessions but prefer face-to-face when possible.

You may look like you’re coping on the outside while internally feeling overwhelmed, emotionally exhausted, anxious, disconnected, or stuck in patterns that no longer serve you, disconnected from yourself, or unsure of what comes next. Counselling offers a space to slow things down, feel genuinely heard, and begin understanding what’s underneath the stress, self-doubt, relationship challenges, or emotional overwhelm you’ve been carrying. Many clients seek clarity, healing, and confidence while processing difficult emotions, rebuilding self-worth, strengthening relationships, and creating meaningful change.

I have been working in the fields of family therapy and stress-related disorders and conditions for more than twenty-two years, since being an army chaplain both in the South African and Australian Defence Forces during times of military conflict (I served for extensive periods on the front lines of battle and experienced the horrors of traumatic incidents, death, loss, brokenness, anger and excessive aggression behind retaliation on the front line).
I specialise in helping couples, families and family members move on from chronic stress to sustainable resilience. I prefer to help pre-married couples and family members to develop sustainable resilience, even before life and relationships become too stressful.

Anger Management Therapists
How long does therapy take for anger management?
Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?
Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?
Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
