I work collaboratively with my clients to understand their story, including important life experiences and turning points that may have contributed to their current difficulties. I take a transdiagnostic approach, focusing less on diagnostic labels and more on the patterns that keep problems going. These patterns can include unhelpful habits, entrenched ways of thinking, emotional and relational dynamics, and ongoing life stressors. Often, it is these patterns, rather than the symptoms themselves, that cause problems. By addressing them we can work together to build new ways of responding that fit better with your values and goals.

Hi, I'm Belinda. I have worked as a psychologist for almost 20 years. I see you, awake in the middle of the night, or feeling your heart race for no reason, perhaps even feeling overwhelmed by the smallest things. I get that sometimes you feel so low, even when your life looks good on paper. Or maybe it doesn't look like the life you were after. All adults are welcome at Reset Psychology. More recently, I have developed a unique interest in working with midlife women and the challenges that show up in the peri-post menopause space. Learning to understand and manage the challenges that show up is vital to good health.

As an integrative counsellor I work relationally with the client. We work to navigate complex challenges such as trauma, neurodiversity, or struggles related to identity. This could include developing coping strategies for ADHD, managing autism in personal and professional lives, LGBTQIA+ individuals seeking self-acceptance, or Armed Forces veterans processing past experiences and adjusting to civilian life, or addressing situations from the past. Therapy will be tailored to your unique situation, and we can work towards goals around mental clarity, emotional resilience, self-growth, and building fulfilling relationships.

As part of normal life we all have to face challenges from time to time. Over 30 years in private practice, helping people overcome their challenges, has taught me a lot about human resilience and capacity for change. But for most people, knowing how to tackle life’s challenges is not the end goal. Beyond that, they also want their life to feel meaningful!

I believe that a huge part of my job is to be able to sit with a client in the hardest of times, and allow them the space and support to get up by themselves. I take a very client centred approach to care and believe that the client is the expertise in their own lives. I use a basis of ACT, Narrative Therapy, EFT and SFT to drive my practice from evidence based models and enjoy working with clients from a multitude of different backgrounds. I believe in the power of creating a safe space for people to share and be vulnerable, the ability to do this is one of our great human gifts.

Men's Issues Therapists
Is therapy for men different than it is for women?
Therapeutic treatments and types are the same for men as they are for women, with the same protocols followed and the same strategies employed. Discussing one’s feelings and emotions is an integral part of most therapies, and some men find doing so more challenging. Therapists can help clients through the process; some specialize in treating men for this reason.

How do you encourage a man to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either himself or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can men prepare for therapy?
Men can prepare for therapy by approaching the process with an open mind, being willing to talk about their challenges, and giving treatment the time to work. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. It can be useful for men who struggle to recall their emotional states to write down notes between sessions about their response to a given event or how they were feeling at a particular time.

What should men know about the process of therapy?
One of the most common reasons men don’t seek therapy is the notion that there’s something wrong with them if they do. Men should know that just because they’re seeking therapy doesn’t mean they’re mentally ill or damaged in some way. In the same way people work on their bodies through exercise or a craft through practice, therapy can be a way to improve the mental and emotional skills needed to be productive and effective partners, employees, and people in all realms of life.
