I work with adult individuals who are experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, grief and loss, or who are seeking to explore complicated life matters. People often seek my services in order to: understand themselves better; explore issues of the self (including self-acceptance and self-esteem); or stop feeling like they go out of their way to please everyone else.

Since 2005, I have worked as a psychotherapist and social worker in a range of hu man service and community work settings. My clinical practice has been shaped by people affected by: – chronic illness; natural disasters; trauma, disability; mental health challenges; and grief and loss. I consider the therapeutic space to be a safe and enriched environment. I strive to bring a gentle curiosity to these explorations, and to acknowledge the importance of working at your pace. Central to my work is a belief in our capacity for insight, creativity, and growth – particularly in response to the difficulties we face.

As part of normal life we all have to face challenges from time to time. Over 30 years in private practice, helping people overcome their challenges, has taught me a lot about hu man resilience and capacity for change. But for most people, knowing how to tackle life’s challenges is not the end goal. Beyond that, they also want their life to feel meaningful!

I have spent many years abroad studying meditation and yoga and draw on this in my practice.
There Is Nothing Wrong With You <3. We all have certain traits that can either benefit us or hinder us. This all depends on the circumstance and how aware we are of which trait is behind the wheel in any given moment. Your Vigilance keeps you safe, but when it is always taking the driver’s seat your nervous system becomes taxed. Your people pleasing makes you feel valued and it’s good to care about the people around you. However, having clear boundaries makes for more authentic relationships and stops you from burning out. I’m not interested in trying to "fix" you, but I would love to support your path to self-awareness.

Can you relate to either of these statements? “I’m so over hurtful relationships. I’m starting to think I’ll be single forever” "We can’t keep fighting like this. If something doesn’t change we’re headed for a breakup” If you can relate to the pain of struggling in a relationship, you’re not alone. If you’re an individual in relationship pain, I can help you overcome your past relationship hurts, understand your blocks to intimacy, and help you create a successful long-term relationship. If you’re a couple, I can help you resolve long-standing issues and rebuild the loving, intimate and harmonious relationship you once had.

Embrace The Power Of Doing Nothing. Welcome to Lazy Therapy, where doing nothing is doing everything. Here, we embrace the "lazy" approach, allowing thoughts and feelings to exist without interference. Metacognitive Therapy (MCT), known affectionately as "lazy therapy" redefines the traditional notions of effort and engagement in the therapeutic process. Instead of exhaustive analysis techniques, it highlights the power of observing our own thoughts without trying to forcefully change them. By embracing this seemingly "lazy" approach, individuals discover an incredible shift in their relationship with their thoughts and feelings.

Male Counsellors

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
