I understand that starting therapy can feel uncomfortable and even daunting, which is why creating a safe, welcoming space and building a genuine client-therapist relationship is a top priority for me. I strive to make the therapeutic process as stress-free and enjoyable as possible. I view therapy as a collaborative journey, grounded in each individual’s strengths and personal goals. I deeply respect that every client is unique in their experiences and circumstances. My approach is holistic and trauma-informed, drawing on Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) to support clients in understanding and transforming emotional patterns.

I am very privileged to work with clients who are interested in their self growth and development. Most of the time when people come to see a psychologist they are wanting to have some change in their life and they need the space to talk through their issues. I love providing a safe, confidential place for people to explore the difficulties and life experiences that have been challenging for them.

My ideal clients are adults carrying the impact of trauma, narcissistic or emotionally abusive relationships, or ongoing anxiety and relational or workplace stress. You might feel stuck, overwhelmed, or triggered by patterns you can’t quite shift alone. I help people make sense of what’s happening, strengthen boundaries, regulate emotions, and find a sense of self. This means a better daily life and healthier relationships I love working with other people who help people: health professionals, teachers, parents, and first responders too.

In over 30 years practice experience & ongoing professional development; I have had the privilege of working with children, young people and adults whose engagement, potential and enjoyment in education, employment, social recreational & family contexts has been compromised through challenging acute (short) or chronic (long term) experiences – affecting their mental health and overall wellbeing. Through an integrative therapeutic model we have many positive, wonderful, inspiring and occasionally surprising outcomes; with felt and observable progress - often from our very first session.

People may seek therapy when the impact of life’s demands, past experiences, or protective patterns starts to exceed capacity, and that strain shows up as disconnection—potentially from purpose, from the body, or from relationships. You may be carrying the effects of painful or overwhelming experiences that still shape how you feel and relate today. Reaching out is a significant step, and you don’t have to work out the next ones alone. I offer compassionate, collaborative therapy informed by years of clinical experience, extensive training, and my work as a facilitator and trainer with the Blue Knot Foundation.

Sexual Abuse Therapists
How do therapists treat sexual abuse?
A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.

Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?
Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.

How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?
Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.

Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?
As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
