I'm a counsellor who has specialised in psychosexual therapy. Many of the women I work with feel disconnected from their sexual selves. They may be experiencing painful penetration, low desire, difficulty reaching orgasm, or struggling with body image and self-esteem. These challenges are often shaped by deeper emotional patterns and beliefs around sex and the body. My approach is gentle, collaborative, and grounded in schema therapy, viewed through a feminist lens. I offer a non-judgmental space to explore what’s going on beneath the surface and how these might be impacting your relationship with your body, sexuality, and intimacy.

Additionally, they might be navigating women's health issues like Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder or perinatal mental health challenges, or are exploring their gender, sexuality, or identity within the LGBTQIA+ community. I also have experience working with clients who struggle with anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship concerns and general life stressors.

I enjoy working with individuals who are highly empathetic, and capable, but who often place significant pressure on themselves. They may experience anxiety, self-criticism, or emotional overwhelm. Many women I work with are pregnant or in the postpartum period and have long-standing patterns of perfectionism, people-pleasing, or over-responsibility. Some may also experience disordered eating or body image concerns. These patterns are often linked to a strong desire for control, certainty, or to feel “good enough,” particularly during periods of transition such as motherhood.

I am an experienced trauma-&IFS-informed therapist. I work well with people who are ready to do 'the work'. I briefly bring strategies that can be useful to your everyday life initially, relying on modalities such as mindfulness and polyvagal theory, before moving into deeper work based in Internal Family Systems (IFS), if and when the time is right. I assist/guide you to reveal and heal the parts of you that carry thoughts, feelings and behaviours that no longer serve you. It is not always doom and gloom. We work together light-heartedly to safely reveal your unconscious motivations and inner strength, towards lasting healing.

Hi, I’m Julie. Are you feeling stuck, misunderstood, and anxious? Do you find yourself struggling to get to sleep, replaying conversations over and over? Maybe you feel like you can’t truly be yourself, afraid of being rejected or judged. Life might feel like it’s on repeat — doing everything that’s expected, but inside, something feels off. You’re tired of keeping quiet just to fit in, but you’re unsure of what truly makes you happy. Many people feel disconnected from themselves, unsure of what they want or what excites them. You might feel lost, anxious, or flat about your life, even though everything seems "fine" on the surface.

My ideal client is a woman who feels like she's lost herself in the midst of motherhood, relationships, responsibilities, or just trying to keep up with life. She might be snapping over little things, feeling guilty afterward, overwhelmed by the mental load, or grieving the version of herself that existed before children. Often, she's the one holding it together for everyone else but inside, she feels like she's running on empty.
She wants to stop yelling, find time to do the things she loves, stop second-guessing everything, have a conversation with her partner that lasts longer than 5 seconds, and simply just, breathe!

How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
How can women prepare for therapy?
Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.
How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?
As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realised.
How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?
Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
