I specialise in working with women who are struggling with their "not good enough" story. I work to help you unpack the journey that has brought you to this point where you are seeking support and guidance to move forward in your life. My role is to hold the space for you while you face the darkest and most rejected parts of yourself. Then, using a person-centred approach that focuses on your strengths, we work together to help you craft the rich, full and meaningful life you have always known you are capable of living. Life can be difficult at the best of times. Sometimes it's plain overwhelming. If you're reading this you may be feeling stressed, anxious, depressed or maybe just a bit confused. It's not easy being you. And yet, you are unique. There's no-one on Earth the same. That means you probably already hold the key to making the changes you want to make in your life. Everyone has the capacity for growth, and for the meaningful connection with others we need to achieve that. But we also need someone who will listen to us without judgment, help us feel safe and understood, and make sense of what is going on for us so we can move forward.

Hello and welcome to my site. Little did I realise how much my life would change during my journey to becoming a qualified Gestalt psychotherapist, recovering from a life-changing illness 22 years ago. It meant that I could not live as I was living anymore. From a background in the military, and being involved in business and community events to becoming a Gestalt therapist was a monumental shift in leaving the old way of life behind and being able to explore an alternative way of living my truth. I use this lived experience in my work as a therapist with people of all ages and ethnicity.

My ideal client is ready to make positive change in their life. They want to connect deeply to their unique purpose and uncover the dysfunction that is holding them back from this. I offer a style of counselling and psychotherapy that combines the teaching of concepts that support deep change, with compassionate communication, to address personal difficulties. These difficulties limit your ability to experience life positively and stem from unresolved upsets, trauma, inter-generational trauma and limiting cultural mis-information.

An educational-based approach is used where clients get to know themselves better understanding below the surface triggers. A flexible approach to help clients suffering from depression, anxiety, relationship problems, post suicide support, domestic violence, social anxiety, and difficulty in forming relationships.

Hi, thanks for taking the time to look at my profile and see if we might connect. I specialise in LGBTQIA+, neurodiversity, and disability. Some of the issues that people bring to their sessions with me include - gender, sex and sexuality, religious trauma, parenting, relationships, family, mental health, and coping with daily life. Many of my clients are seeking a new perspective on challenges they've been managing for some time. Other times a difficult event, loss or personal crisis has occurred. My teen and young adult clients often need support with exploring identity, healthy relationships, self care and independence.

I have been working in the fields of family therapy and stress-related disorders and conditions for more than twenty-two years, since being an army chaplain both in the South African and Australian Defence Forces during times of military conflict (I served for extensive periods on the front lines of battle and experienced the horrors of traumatic incidents, death, loss, brokenness, anger and excessive aggression behind retaliation on the front line). Touched by the distress of those around me, I realised that we have to be proactive and therefore intentionally develop sustainable resilience before facing extreme distress!

What type of mental health professional is right for me?
How can I find a therapist in Central Queensland?
Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In many countries, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counsellor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counsellors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counsellor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counsellors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
