With more than 20 years in trauma-focused therapy, including specialist sexual assault and complex trauma work, I've learned how to hold the hardest experiences with steadiness and care.
Maybe you've spent years holding things together, wondering why it still feels so hard. Or something has quietly shaped how you move through relationships and your own body, and you're ready to explore it with support. I work across the lifespan with children, adults, and couples navigating complex trauma, neurodivergence, attachment wounds, and burnout. I offer trauma-informed, relational therapy in support of your nervous system. I draw upon Flash technique and Havening alongside longer-term trauma-therapy. I am available face-to-face at Capalaba, QLD and via telehealth across Australia.

If you’ve landed on this page, chances are you’ve been carrying a lot for a while. Maybe your relationship feels distant, tense, or stuck in the same arguments, and you long to feel close, understood, and on the same team again. Or maybe the struggle feels more personal — you’ve been feeling overwhelmed, anxious, low, or stuck in your own head, wondering why everything feels so hard. Many of the women and couples I work with feel disconnected, unheard, and unsure of how to move forward. Some are dealing with communication breakdown, trust issues, betrayal, parenting stress, or the pain of feeling alone in their relationship.

How we feel has a big effect on how we see ourselves, others and our world. These feelings can be frustrating, scary, hurtful or worrying. They can either have been there for most of our lives, gradually crept up on us or come as a result of our current situation. Often, when we are struggling, the most challenging part is not understanding what we are feeling or thinking, understanding why or knowing what to do about it.

Accepting new clients. Evening appointments available. I am a general psychologist with over 30 years of experience. I come to therapy with a non-pathologising view of symptoms and behaviour. My view is that the vast majority of symptoms of "mental illness" are an understandable response to various life circumstances. Some deep in our past, some in our present. I am passionate about helping people to heal, grow, and live full lives. I enjoy working at deep levels to shift stuckness, often the result of prior trauma. I work only with adults (over 20yo).

I also specialise in responding to harmful sexual behaviours, sexual abuse and treatment of criminal behaviours.
I offer a warm and caring approach focusing on outcomes in a trauma informed and developmentally appropriate way. I provide strategies that facilitate growth, reduce risk and encourage safety. Although mental health and behavioural issues can significantly impact individuals it is possible that therapy and support can reduce risk and improve daily function.

Sexual Abuse Therapists
How do therapists treat sexual abuse?
A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.

Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?
Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.

How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?
Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.

Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?
As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
