Many clients have experienced narcissistic abuse from a partner or close family member.
If you're dealing with a toxic or high conflict partner, a narcissistic relationship or associated trauma, I can help. Has your relationship been feeling like a game, but you didn't get a copy of the rulebook? Has it been like a rollercoaster ride? Walking on eggshells? Has the mystery of your relationship forced you to become a detective? Are you trying to decide if you should stay or leave but don't know where to draw the line? It's not easy to be in any of these situations, especially while trying to manage all other aspects of your life. The right support can be invaluable. I've got you.

Some things I work with include (but are not limited to): The neurodivergent experience; Sexuality, gender, and other queer issues; Bereavement, grief and other types of loss; Chronic health issues and disability; Trauma and complex trauma; DFV and other forms of abuse or violence; Relationship issues, including polyamory, sex and kink; Anxiety, depression, and suicidality.
As a social worker and psychotherapist, what matters most to me is creating a space where you feel truly seen, safe, and respected. I want our time together to feel like somewhere you can show up exactly as you are — no masks, no pressure — and know that’s more than enough. I really believe that the connection between therapist and client is at the heart of any meaningful growth, which is why I bring a warm, down-to-earth, and often humour and playful energy into my sessions.

I also specialise in responding to harmful sexual behaviours, sexual abuse and treatment of criminal behaviours.
I offer a warm and caring approach focusing on outcomes in a trauma informed and developmentally appropriate way. I provide strategies that facilitate growth, reduce risk and encourage safety. Although mental health and behavioural issues can significantly impact individuals it is possible that therapy and support can reduce risk and improve daily function.

Anxiety, Trauma, Autism, & ADHD are my four areas of specialty. If you want to work with a psychologist who really understands these issues, who will tailor their approach to your specific needs, and who can provide a mixture of being patient, empathetic, and direct, then we will be a good fit. We will work towards resolving the root causes of problems, not just applying temporary fixes. This might involve addressing past trauma, problem solving present-day issues, and skill-building for the future.

I have extensive experience with relationships, work stress, student stress, trauma, abuse and families.
I work from a non-judgmental, compassionate, strength based, trauma-informed framework. I assess and normalise what people are going through in the context of their lives. Instead of asking, “what is wrong with you”, I help make sense of what happened to you and how it impacts you. Together we work on a process of learning, developing, healing and recovery.

My experience also includes working with domestic violence situations, relationship breakdown, anxiety, depression and trauma.
I have had a lot of experience with working with people and I very much appreciate the need to have someone listen, and I mean truly listen. Our world is often fast and furious, our lives more often than not quite chaotic, and it can be difficult to cope with the many hurdles that are thrown at us, and to find someone who actually offers their help unconditionally. My role as your Counsellor is to walk by your side, to respect the privilege that it is to share your story with you, and to perhaps work with you to help find the way forward. Sometimes it is just an ear that makes the difference.

I work with clients who have a lived experience of domestic and family violence (survivors) and also clients who have been issued with a DVO (perpetrators).
Being able to talk about what's going on in your life in a safe and non-judgemental space can be a powerful catalyst for change. Counselling is based on your needs with interventions grounded in a holistic understanding of you and your life. It aims to facilitate improved self-knowledge and understanding of issues you may be experiencing, which enhances steps towards improved mental health and emotional well being. If agreed upon I am able to work with you in helping to understand the association between past experiences and current behaviour. Early influences can shape us and our ability to exert control over present functioning.

Domestic Abuse Counsellors

What are the most effective ways to recover from domestic abuse?

Leaving an abusive relationship requires tremendous courage, so survivors in treatment should recognise that they have already completed the most important step. Still, the trauma of physical or emotional abuse can be difficult to process and overcome. Therapy can help survivors process trauma, grief, and difficult emotions, treat relevant mental health symptoms, and create a new framework for boundaries and relationships in the future. For some, support groups can also be an invaluable outlet for healing.

When should an individual seek help for domestic abuse?

Victims of intimate partner violence should seek help immediately. It can take substantial time, planning, energy, and courage to leave an abusive relationship, but starting the process—by seeking therapy, calling the domestic violence hotline, or simply confiding in a loved one—will help them get there. Those who have left abusive relationships but haven’t sought treatment can also greatly benefit from therapy to process and heal from the experience.

What are the consequences of staying in an abusive relationship?

Remaining in an abusive relationship has serious repercussions. In addition to the ongoing threat of physical danger and emotional abuse, research shows that intimate partner violence is associated with a range of mental health disorders including depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and substance abuse. Therefore it’s important for individuals in an abusive relationship to seek help as soon as possible.

How can you get domestic abuse treatment for someone else?

It can be very complicated to identify and leave an abusive relationship; barriers include the threat of violence, financial instability, and family pressures. Those concerned about a loved one in an abusive relationship should talk to them about the situation, provide them with resources such as the domestic violence hotline, and introduce the idea of seeing a therapist due to their concern for the person’s safety and well-being.
