I can help with overcoming mood and emotional dis-regulation,
anxiety
, depression, grief and loss, trauma and sometimes just finding yourself stuck.
Times are challenging nowadays for both little and big people! These challenges present to us in a myriad of forms across school life, work life and home life. I undertake therapy with children (preschool age and above), adolescents, adults and families in a way that helps all parties understand themselves and each other better. I also feel that young adults (18-30's) often struggle to ask for help around
anxiety
and depression, therefore I strongly encourage you to reach out and we can have a chat about strengthening your own resources to feel better.

Francene, Lee, & Alanah share specialized expertise in working with people experiencing stress,
anxiety
, depression, low self-esteem, relationship challenges, grief and loss, life transitions and adjustments, parenting, chronic pain, complex trauma,
panic
, and more (please contact us to discuss; please note Gillian Day is on leave from Jan 2023).
We are primed for struggle and to connect within self and with others to improve our experiences of life, relationships, work, parenting, and everything in between. We have a biological need to feel emotions; the whole spectrum of emotions-joy, sadness, fear, happiness, and so on. These feelings come and go, some stay longer, some push forth when triggered, some hang back and hide; but when they arise they’re deeply felt. Through nurturing a safe, warm, empathetic space, Francene Hemingway, Lee Hughes, & Alanah Keating can work with you to gently discuss your personal experiences openly and supportively.

What if you could reduce your self-criticism & be kinder & less judgemental of yourself? What if you could deal with life stress, emotional overload,
anxiety
, depression, past trauma, or spiritual concerns in a more balanced way? It won’t be easy but change is possible and I’m here to help.
Are you fed up with feeling anxious, unhappy, stressed out, disconnected? On the outside you look & act as if everything is ok but on the inside you feel completely different. What are you aware of on the inside? Can you recognise & acknowledge what is affecting your mental health & emotional wellbeing or do you avoid it or push it further down inside? Can you give yourself kindness when life is hard or do you beat yourself up because you're not dealing with things in the way you think you're supposed to? Can you balance negative self-talk with positive appreciation of yourself & life or does your mind keep putting you down?

Anthony Edwards
As an experienced and compassionate counsellor, having worked in the counselling and people-helping sectors for over 15 years, I have established a broad understanding of working with issues such
anxiety
, depression, stress, trauma, emotional distress, self-confidence, shame, guilt, grief and loss, addictions, and personal and relationship issues.
Are you feeling anxious, stressed, confused, emotionally overwhelmed? Does life seem overwhelming, unfair, sad, unfulfilling, directionless, hopeless? Do you simply want more from life? You’re not alone. I endeavour to understand what is important for you, which means that I don’t have a one-size-fits-all approach. Using empathy and non-judgement, I listen to understand what life is like for you and to ‘get’ you - what you are thinking and feeling, how the events of life have impacted you, and what you want and need. I create a safe space to be open and real about what you are experiencing.

This accumulation can be almost imperceptible in the beginning however over time presents as burn out, chronic pain,

Counselling is a collaborative exploration and unwinding of life's unbearable difficulties. Frequently people find me because they have tried traditional methods of talk therapy with moderate to limited success. I understand that when life overwhelms us it is a whole mind and body experience and thus the indescribable must be met and honored in the same way. With a strong foundation of understanding the nervous system I combine talk therapy with a practice called TRE to support the release and reintegration of overwhelming experiences.

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
