This can manifest into behaviours of stress, avoidance, isolation, anger, & frustration.
Do you feel angry and don't know why? Have you lost your self-confidence? Does going to a busy public place give you feelings of anxiety, where the stress just grips you? Have you recently been struggling in your relationship with your partner and feel like you are not being heard? Are you struggling to get out of bed in the morning after enduring a night of negative thoughts that will not go away? If you are currently going through any of the above, then it may help you to know that around 3.2 million Australians between the ages of 16 & 85 have experienced anxiety, depression or another psychological issue in the last 12 months.

I work with clients who are struggling with anxiety, depression, anger, addiction and their relationships - however not necessarily all at once.
I want to help you overcome the current challenges you are facing. You may be new to counselling and I want to make this a positive experience for you. I am a professional counsellor with lived experience of addiction and mental illness and I bring this knowledge to help you. Additionally, post pandemic, life is very different than it was four years ago and this maybe the reason you are seeking help. You may be unsure of why it is you are feeling the way you do and would like someone to talk to.

This has involved working with people dealing with anxiety, depression, anger, burnout, addictions and life transitions, just to name a few.
My clients range in age from 5 and their issues, needs and goals vary markedly. I work with the person in front of me and try to see the world through their eyes. Clients want someone who is going to listen to them and not be judged. I use a range of strategies in sessions that will build a toolbox for the client in the future. Many of my clients have applied things they have learned to other situations. The therapeutic relationship needs to be a careful balance of comfort, choice and challenge, built up over a time frame guided by the readiness of the client.

Anger Management Counsellors

How long does therapy take for anger management?

Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?

Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?

Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
