Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Psychologists and Therapists in Birtinya, QLD
Hello! My name is Kiana and I typically work with those who may appear to be managing well on the outside, but internally feel overwhelmed, anxious, or unsure of themselves. They might be struggling with anxiety, relationship challenges, people-pleasing, burnout, or navigating a period of change in their life.
Often, they want to better understand themselves - why they think, feel, and react the way they do. They’re looking for both practical strategies to cope with everyday challenges and deeper insight into their patterns, values, and goals. Ultimately, they want to feel more confident, grounded, and comfortable being themselves.

Many of the adults I work with have spent years feeling misunderstood or overwhelmed. They might be navigating ADHD, autism spectrum traits or longstanding trauma, often without clear formulation or integrated support. Some have received a late diagnosis or recognise high masking patterns. Others struggle with emotional regulation, relationship strain or persistent distress that has not shifted with short-term approaches. They want clarity, stability and a deeper understanding of themselves.

You might feel grief for the parent you needed, guilt for wanting space, and exhaustion from trying to make the relationship work.

Finding the right psychologist matters. I offer a warm, curious and down-to-earth space for adults who may feel anxious, overwhelmed, burnt out or unsure of themselves. My interests include ADHD, autism and AuDHD, appearance and body-image concerns, perfectionism, identity, and the emotional changes that can accompany midlife and menopause. I understand that therapy is not one-size-fits-all. You do not need to arrive knowing exactly what to say or what needs to change. We can begin with what feels most important to you, make sense of what has been happening and work together towards understanding, confidence and self-acceptance.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists
How long does OCD treatment take?
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.
What happens if OCD is not treated?
Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.
Are there medications for OCD?
Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine, fluoxetine, and sertraline, among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.
Can OCD come back after treatment?
Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
