I also offer EMDR, an evidence-based therapy that helps people process traumatic or distressing experiences, focusing on healing rather than simply symptom management. Together, we will find the right approach for you.

Accepting new clients. Evening appointments available. I am a general psychologist with over 30 years of experience. I come to therapy with a non-pathologising view of symptoms and behaviour. My view is that the vast majority of symptoms of "mental illness" are an understandable response to various life circumstances. Some deep in our past, some in our present. I am passionate about helping people to heal, grow, and live full lives. I enjoy working at deep levels to shift stuckness, often the result of prior trauma. I work only with adults.

How we feel has a big effect on how we see ourselves, others and our world. These feelings can be frustrating, scary, hurtful or worrying. They can either have been there for most of our lives, gradually crept up on us or come as a result of our current situation. Often, when we are struggling, the most challenging part is not understanding what we are feeling or thinking, understanding why or knowing what to do about it.

Sea Soul Crew Counselling was created to support yacht crew and sailors navigating the unique mental, emotional and physical challenges of life at sea. Sea Soul's ideal client can be seen as a seafarer that is high-functioning, yet emotionally stretched beneath the surface. They may be navigating crew dynamics, self-doubt, people-pleasing, body image concerns or the pressure to always perform and 'hold it together' onboard. I find Sea Soul clients to be self-aware, reflective and open to growth.

Experiential therapy can help you get back to a calm, confident self, sooner. I am a lived experience and neurodivergent therapist, trained in Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Coherence Therapy and training in EMDR. These approaches engage the brain's natural memory reconsolidation process, which allows for transformation of traumatic memories to alleviate the distress that comes with them, such as anxiety, people-pleasing patterns, physical tension, self-sabotage, and depression. These aha! moments in experiential therapy can help us develop a new relationship with ourselves and profoundly shift our old reaction patterns.

If you are curious about creative arts therapy and have a desire to gain deeper insight into your inner self by a different way of knowing, you are in the right place. Although I also offer traditional forms of counselling, I understand that they may not always capture the full depth of your experiences. By engaging in art therapy, you can gain new awareness and perspectives that might not be readily accessible through talk therapy alone. It can be a path to greater self-awareness and personal growth, providing a unique avenue for self-expression and exploration, allowing you to tap into your inner wisdom.

Hi, I’m Jack. I am a psychotherapist, educator, father and long term partner and I came to this work through my own experiences with therapy. I have come to trust that both acceptance and change are possible in our lives. There are many reasons we may begin therapy; we may long for change or hope for opportunities for healing, growth and transformation. Whether there is a particular thing you are struggling with, a need for greater support, or an interest in deepening self-awareness, I can support you on your journey.

Self Esteem Therapists
When should a person seek therapy for low self-esteem?
When self-esteem problems begin to disrupt the healthy daily functioning of an individual, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not engaging with friends for fear of being judged, not completing work assignments because they don’t think they’re capable, or not finding romantic love because they don’t feel they’re worthy of it, a therapist may be able to help.

What are the signs of low self-esteem?
Low self-esteem is a common issue that can affect a person's mental and emotional well-being. Some common signs of low self-esteem include negative self-talk, perfectionism, social anxiety, difficulty making decisions, an inability to set boundaries, people-pleasing, and others. A lack of belief in oneself or one’s abilities and a feeling of not being worthy or deserving underlie most of these characteristics.

What causes low self-esteem?
Feelings of low self-worth can begin in childhood or adulthood. Being raised by a highly critical parent or growing up feeling constant disapproval can stay with a person well into adulthood. Specific issues in adulthood may also be a cause of low self-esteem. An unhappy relationship, a dysfunctional work or school experience can impact a person’s feelings of self-worth.

How can therapy improve self-esteem?
Therapists can help identify negative thought patterns that keep the client stuck in a loop of destructive self-talk and develop coping skills to change the voice in their head. A therapist can help with goal-setting, so that clients are better able to stay on task and build confidence from successfully completing work they’re proud of. Coaching a client on how to better communicate can improve relationships. These skills can result in someone with low self-esteem feeling empowered and living with less fear.
