Every person is the expert in their own life. Everybody is doing the best they can with what they've got. Every person has strengths as well as areas of vulnerability. Every person has a unique story. Emotionally, every person intrinsically knows where they need to get to, but sometimes they just can't find the 'map'. As the therapist, my role is not to 'solve' the problems life throws at people, but rather to help people tap into their strengths, help them find their 'map', and help them safely take the journey. We are never lost; we are just finding new ways to write more of our story.
There is no 'one way' to help people. Consistent with my belief that a person knows their own life story best, I am committed to Narrative Therapy as a central framework of my practice and helping philosophy. However, there is always more to the story, and one approach can never be the only approach. It is important to be able to tailor a personal response.
More than anything, people want to belong. They want understanding and they want compassion. Sometimes the compassion they need most is their own. People hold themselves to high standards... and sometimes they fall short. That is where a good, understanding counsellor can help most. Clinical Group Supervision
3-6 clinicians meeting together for a guided professional consultation is regarded as an efficient, yet rich and safe environment in which to learn from one another. Group supervision facilitates opportunities to professionally discuss the successes and the challenges of your practice. A facilitated group can discuss and recommend professional development, and it can offer mutual guidance and advice based on experience and expertise. Group supervision is an excellent forum for establishing practitioners to learn from more experienced peers. Commonly, groups study and discuss texts, journal articles and academic papers that offer yet more insight and innovation in practice.
