I take a collaborative, and evidence-based approach to support individuals with gender and sexual identity, kink, gender dysphoria, mood disorders, anxiety, OCD, substance use, ADHD, stigma, interpersonal issues, grief, life transitions, and trauma.
Hello! I'm Xander (he/him) I’m a provisional psychologist dedicated to providing compassionate, non-judgmental, and trauma-informed care, with a focus on improving outcomes for neurodivergent individuals and the LGBTQIA+ community. As a Queer person myself, I understand how difficult it can be to find quality, affirming care, and my goal is to create a space where Queer and neurodivergent individuals can authentically express and explore themselves without fear of judgment.

Very Helpful Chats offers ADHD & Autism assessments, mental health treatment, counselling, occupational therapy, ADHD coaching, and social-therapeutic groups to the neurodivergent community.
What is the neurodiversity-affirming approach? The understanding that ADHD, Autism, Dyslexia and other neurodivergence are natural differences in human development. Neurodivergence is not a 'disorder', 'deficiency', or a 'condition' requiring treatment. You are not broken and you do not need to be fixed!

I am a Clinical Psychologist with a special interest in providing neurodiversity-affirming psychotherapy to adults who are (or who believe they might be) autistic and/or who experience ADHD-related difficulties.
Coping with life is not the same as being happy. My aim is to go beyond coping and help neurodivergent people access their true potential, so that they can build a vibrant life that suits their neurotype. I tend to work with my clients at a deeper level, by exploring emotions and unmet needs, as well as by processing past trauma for those who wish to do so.

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?

You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.

How does treatment for ADHD work?

Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioural therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.

How long does treatment for ADHD take?

It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
