I work best with individuals navigating trauma, mood or relationship difficulties, or long-standing patterns that feel hard to change. Some are dealing with anxiety, trauma or depression; others are working through complex life experiences such as past trauma, relationship issues, personality issues or loss. Often, they’ve spent years coping but feel ready to understand themselves more deeply and shift what’s no longer serving them. They’re seeking a therapy space that offers warmth, depth, and clarity, where insight leads to meaningful and lasting change.

Are you feeling disconnected from yourself and others? You could be feeling depressed, maybe you suffer from anxiety. You might feel overwhelmed by your emotions at times. Sadness. Anger. Confusion. Sometimes they all mix together into one big negative feeling that threatens to overtake you. Or, maybe you just feel numb–you go about your life… like you are living in a daze not knowing what you feel or what you want. Maybe you feel simply just not good enough.

My clients seek my services for many reasons. Their individual circumstances or concerns vary but ultimately they express a want for their lived experiences to be different. They may want to shift their relationship with themselves, or with others or they may want the time, space and trusting therapeutic relationship to authentically show up and be vulnerable and develop aspects of themselves or identify goals or different ways of being. Often the reasons individuals seek support may not be instantly clear. They may have an identified goal or a few and then as the therapeutic relationship develops, so does their own unique process.

I believe the therapeutic relationship is the cornerstone to successful outcomes in therapy. I hope to build a valued and trusting relationship with my clients. I like to create a space whereby my clients feel comfortable and can relax. I prefer a casual approach that feels conversational and less clinical. While my approach is based in evidence-based practice, I tailor my treatment to the individual to suit their needs and preferences. I will listen to you and what you need, to provide you care that suits you.

I am an experienced clinical psychologist, with a particular interest in working with clients who have difficulties regulating their emotions (anxiety, mood, shame, anger), have interpersonal or relationship difficulties, or personality issues. I find that these people are often misunderstood by others, which leads to them misunderstanding themselves and the origin of their difficulties.

Understanding how you experience the world is central to my work as a therapist. I am interested how feelings and thoughts can manifest in our bodies. Gentle exploration of these somatic responses can assist in deeper understanding of our emotional world. Attachment-based Therapists
Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?
Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.
What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?
Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.
How long does attachment-based therapy last?
Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioural Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.
Does attachment-based therapy work?
Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
