I offer a warm, steady space where you can set things down for a while — where somatic and talk therapy gently weave together, helping you reconnect with yourself and create meaningful, lasting change.
As a Social Worker and Counsellor with additional training in Trauma-Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY-F), I work with the whole person — body, mind, and spirit. My work is trauma-informed, relational and strength based, adapting therapy modalities to suit each client’s needs.

Willow Tree Counselling service is a specialised counselling service for people who have experienced Trauma and Attachment issues and other difficult life experiences. My approach is informed by research about the remarkable ability of people to survive and thrive after experiencing trauma. I am informed by practiced based evidence (Scott Miller) which means the therapy is tailored around what works for you. This means that I will check in with you throughout your therapy to see how helpful it is for you and adjust our focus so that you get an individualised therapy and, most importantly, one that you find helpful.

Life feels overwhelming. You may struggle with self-doubt, emotional pain from past trauma, pressure of life transitions, feeling disconnected from yourself and uncertain about how to move forward. Perhaps low self-esteem and negative thought and behaviour patterns have left you feeling trapped in cycles that no longer serve you. What you need isn’t just coping strategies—you need a therapist who truly sees you, understands you, and walks alongside you in your healing journey. Someone who listens without judgment, helps you make sense of your experiences, and provides you the tools to help you live your best life and thrive.

I incorporate mindfulness and somatic techniques to support regulation.
I work with adolescents (12+) and adults who may be feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or wanting to better understand themselves. Clients often come to me with anxiety, emotional regulation difficulties, trauma backgrounds, self-esteem concerns, or general life stress. I also support neurodiverse individuals, including those on the autism spectrum, and provide an inclusive, affirming space for LGBTQIA+ clients. Together, we focus on building insight, self-awareness, and a stronger sense of identity.

I feel especially drawn to working with deep thinkers, sensitive souls, and the so-called “black sheep”—those who often feel like outsiders, yet carry profound insight and depth. I aim to create a therapeutic space that’s collaborative, curious, and grounded in presence, where all parts of you are welcome and nothing needs to be performed. I focus on areas such as chronic stress, anxiety, trauma, life transitions, relationships, and personal and spiritual growth. I have a particular interest in men’s wellbeing and creating safe, supportive spaces for men to explore their emotional health, as well as women, teens, and couples.

By blending traditional talk therapy and somatic (body-based) practices, we work with your nervous system to create change that lasts.
I’m Jess, and I’m here to create a space where you can just show up as you are, no performance required. As a psychologist, my goal isn't to "fix" you, but to collaborate with you. We’ll get curious about what’s happening in your world and help you get back in alignment with what actually matters to you. I bring a lot of heart, a good dose of humour, and zero judgment to our sessions. I believe therapy works best as an authentic human connection that leaves room for both the heavy stuff and the lighter moments. If you’re feeling a bit anxious about starting, don’t sweat it. We’ll just take it one step at a time.

I blend evidence-based methods — CBT, ACT, solution-focused, and somatic strategies — with a strong foundation in wellbeing.
Perhaps you are navigating depression, anxiety, grief, or feeling like you don’t fit the mould? This might mean being neuro-divergent, in a larger body, or struggling with emotion regulation, relationship challenges, and life’s difficult transitions. The impact is real, and it can leave you questioning your worth.

If you are feeling overwhelmed, tired, hopeless or lacking joy; like your emotions are uncontrollable or that they do not match with reality; that your worry is getting out of hand or that there is no longer any point, then it might be a good time to seek some support. We are social creatures, and despite what our modern society might have us believe, we all need human connection to function. Seeking support is a huge sign of strength – the strength to actually reach out and let someone in, in order to start the healing process. If you can relate to this or if you have set yourself a personal development goal please reach out.

You’ve done the work, reflected deeply, and tried to understand yourself, yet certain patterns still pull you back. Even when you know better, old reactions return and you feel frustrated that insight alone hasn’t been enough. You want to feel grounded, stable and aligned with the person you know you can be. As a trauma‑informed psychologist, I use EMDR and strengths‑based approaches to help reduce triggers, shift unhelpful patterns and support meaningful, lasting change.

Being in an intimate relationship with another person is both the hardest and most rewarding experience that we can have. However, given that most of us never went to relationship school, we learnt how to be in relationship by what we experienced, generally as children, often times did not set us up to succeed in adult relationships. We want to be attached and secure in our partnerships feeling loved, close and belonging. As human beings we are hard wired to be in good relationship with others and often we dont have the necessary skills to pull this off. This state is very fixable when people are open and willing.

Can you relate to either of these statements? “I’m so over hurtful relationships. I’m starting to think I’ll be single forever” "We can’t keep fighting like this. If something doesn’t change we’re headed for a breakup” If you can relate to the pain of struggling in a relationship, you’re not alone. If you’re an individual in relationship pain, I can help you overcome your past relationship hurts, understand your blocks to intimacy, and help you create a successful long-term relationship. If you’re a couple, I can help you resolve long-standing issues and rebuild the loving, intimate and harmonious relationship you once had.

Somatic Therapists
How does somatic therapy work?
Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?
Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?
Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
